"Vintage" speaker stands for JBLs

I think these were made in the 70's. They are built of solid oak.

Designed for bookshelf speakers of the era.

Found these at a local thrift for a couple of bucks.

Very lucky find for me.

They perfectly match the oak veneer of my JBL Decade L26 speakers from the early 70's and they put the tweeter at ear-height when sitting.

Looks great. I just have the "lincoln log" version of the jbl stand build. I posted the pictures and specs on another thread. They are very close to the ground and tilted upwards. I really like yours too. What keeps them in place??

Yes, they put the speaker with a slight tilt up, but so far the speaker does not vibrate or move with the speaker just sitting in the middle of the stand.

I need wifey to leave the house for a couple of hours to test it at volume. :D
 
They'll probably sound a bit better too with the speaker reacting less to what's around it. Let us know if it sounds any different. I can help you spike them if you want. I even have some spikes. Coupling them to the concrete floor will give you more solid bass.
 
Nice stands! I made a pair for my DQ-10's, found the solid oak at Home Depot cheap (a 24" stair step cut down!) and then a piece if 2" x 2" cut up and another piece of mdf for the top. Took about an hour to make two of them and cost under $25!

Snade, you got me thinking that I would like a pair of those stands too. What is the specific model number of those stands. I am specifically thinking about it for my L36s. I want to put my speakers out of reach of my cat who views them as scratching posts. :uzi:

There are of course sonic reasons.

There is no label or name of any type on these stands. I've seen this before on old stands - no model or manufacturer name.

I had my L26's on some very low stands before and when I put them on these stands I noticed an improvement in imaging.
 
Set you stands/ speaker on a larger piece of crumpled tin foil, cat do not like the feel of the tin foil under their feet! Another thing that works is sticky fly paper-

Put three or four small wads of blu-tac on the top plate of the stand, and the speakers won't move.

There was a guy on that auction site making something very similar to those, in various sizes and finishes.
 
Luvvinvinyl beat me to it -- some blu-tac or similar would probably be a nice addition to those. That's a good score you made -- those stands look to match your JBLs really nicely. :thmbsp: For me, stands have always been a little difficult -- I've found that most of them just don't match the looks of vintage speakers, and the end result just doesn't look that appealing.
 
The Stands are made by a company called Wood Technology.

For everyone's information these stands are made by a company named Wood Technology. They made different heights and finishes. One think in common is they were always made of SOLID OAK, even the black ones. The base the speaker sits on is a good grade plywood but the rest was sold hardwood. Quite unique. I snatch them up whenever I see them. Seems they retailed for only $49 pr. back in the 1980's.

Funny... I found the exact same ones at a Salvation Army about 5 years ago (I think for $2 for the pair. Parked my smaller advents one 'em. Perfect! .... and look nice.

I liked your Stands so much I had to build my own! These are crafted from Scrap pieces of the very floor the speakers sit on. It was a lot of work to mill the tongue and groove boards into something usable, but the end result is more than I hoped for. The Base is 12X12, platform is 12X11 with a lip on the back. 5deg back tilt - bottom of speaker is 14.75" off floor. They Are JBL decade L36 that I acquired, refoamed and capped within the month. Thanks for posting your stands!
