That's the same background as "farah" somethin, somethin.. was selling a bunch of exclusive Sansui and Accuphase gear on ebay for "her papi Chulo".

no mention of 'ole Chulo now....
 
People should take a long look at all these photos,and especially the room and the background.

This guy has a habit of re-using photos,or using the same room to take subsequent photos.
Now it's fair to say that this guy actually has all these items.We are not looking at photoshopped entries or 'cut and paste' photo manipulation.Therefore,if we can keep a mental record,or even better a running sticky on this guy and his wares,we can help prevent other AKers who haven't clued-in to what this guy is about,from falling into the traps.
 
This seller has recent feedback of 101 positives and no negatives, most for high end audio equipment. Remind me what the problem with him is?

How many people do you know who have 20 of all the items that were in the link I just posted?

Take a note of the photos.You will see these same single items auctioned again and again and again and again and again and again etc etc etc.Each time under a different ebay,Audiogon,Craiglist account.

He has a list of people who work with him to accrue feedback.People fall for it because the items (which he must have to post the photos)which are highly regarded very sought after,are never sent.

Take a mental note.

Every time we see this guy resurface under a different name(he changes the photos periodically)someone posts about it.Those who have been watching for long enough know what is going down.Inevitably there is a post like yours that says "He looks legit to me".They even say "Look he accepts local pick-up.He must be legit."

It always ends-up the same way.The negative feedback comes-in."Item never delivered".Ebay or Audiogon or whoever closes the account.He lays low for a few months,then appears again in another account a different name,The same goods and the whole cycle starts again.We have a post here on AK,those who have been around long enough see the pattern.Warn others,someone like you says "He looks legit to me".And so on,and so on,and so on.

I will admit, he looked legit to me - most people just complained that he was selling japanese voltage units or that items were scratched - they don't seem like fake positives (why wouldn't you just say the deal was all around awesome - maybe they were trying to be more 'realistic')?

So basically this farah papi chulo guy is going to steal your money and never send any amps? Has anyone tried local pickup? Does he just rob you at gunpoint?

I'm no stranger to sarcasm - note the past tense 'looked' in my comment. I was just asking if there was more info about this guy out of personal curiosity. Not enough curiosity to get burned, however - (not that I would even want Japanese voltage units anyhow)

It surprises me he hasn't had this 'papi chulo' account suspended already - it's been up for almost 5 years!
 
I see that all the positive feedback from buyers with high transaction numbers are for small items (speaker cables, etc.). The $1000 plus items were purchased by people with 15 or 20 transactions.
 
i asked him a question once about a Sony amp, maybe a couple months ago. his answer was thorough enough and accurate. at the time, i remember seeing some critical but still positive feedback posted about some moderately expensive item - the buyer said that it did not have its cosmetic issues thoroughly detailed in the listing and he recommended that future buyers ask plenty of questions first. not exactly the kind of scam feedback a seller would want a buddy to post, or anything like that. :scratch2: take that FWIW.

Not that I am doubting theophile, but seriously: if he was THAT bad he would of had his E--Y account pulled; moreover, if someone sells something for $6000 and it is fraud it is no longer small claims court but fraud that could include time. And Paypal is very generous with the buyer protection.

Not that I am going to go out and prove it but real scammers get noticed by more than just people on a topic-specific forum. Moreover, to set up a new account would have to mean a new address, name etc... especially to set up a new Paypal account.

A good way to gauge it is to note he offers "buy it now" which means unless the items are bought outright he will relist them. I am going to watch them and see how many get bought then relisted.

But for what it is worth, please note that a Canadian seller, Vlad20000 does the same thing (post lots of gear with nearly identical pictures) which makes sense if you have a business but Vlad is very poor in packaging and shipping, which causes much damage. Moreover, he is indignant about it. Not entirely a scam but dishonest for sure.
 
Well, I suppose it's OK and healthy to be skeptical. The REAL question is has anyone bought AND received an item from farah?
