Tandberg setup in Denmark

Tandberg

New Member
Hello

Here's a few pics of my gear:smoke:

Tandberg TR2075 reciever(made in 1975-76),a Tandberg TCD300(1972-73) taperecorder(works pretty good), and a TCD3015 cd-player(I bought it in 1987-88...including the r/c)

setup1a.jpg

Here's a view to the right speaker,Tandberg TL3520(the 'stand' is Tandberg Hi-Fi System 20:thmbsp:)

setupri.jpg

The recordplayer is a Tandberg TT500(basically a Thorens TD150 MkII).It's almost mint, never changed the pick-up.I paid less than three packs of cigarettes for it:banana: It's from around 1967'ish to around late 1970...The sound it produces beats my Tandberg cd-player,no kiddin'.Quality stuff,Tandberg

I love the sound of my Tandberg setup:zoom: I started again,being into Tandberg(I was many years ago),and I'm hooked-still!:thmbsp:
Everything is very clear in Tandberg, without ever getting annoying. The sound is truly amazing including DEEP bass:D
On top of the fantastic sound of this setup,I am very impressed about how old it is and the sound it produces, still.Anyone out there with 'top-of-the-line'-Tandberg gear, bear in mind that it hardly gets a whole lot better....:thmbsp:

Alright,greetings everybody.

The only thing better than a full Tandberg system is hearing one in a Genuine Tandberg built company house in Oslo, Tandberg's birthplace. Ingjerd's Oslo house was built by Tandberg for their family when the twins were born with spina bifida. This was done on the orders of Vebjorn Tandberg, the company's founder. After this, my wife's parents were also diagnosed with spina bifida. Tandberg paid their employees very well and treated them impeccably. They believed in the company as family. See avatar for some Tandberg history. My Viking drawing was done by my wife, Ingjerd at the age of 6 years old and actually used in one of Tandberg's instruction manuals. The original hangs in our office.

Nice setup, Tandberg is nice quality stuff. You probably see alot of it in your location!?

I had a Tandberg TR 2030 receiver a couple of years ago - a VERY nice little receiver.

Very nice system you got there. While stationed in Germany in the 70s, lots of soldiers were into buying Tanderg equipment.

Nice system. I bought a 10X new trading in a 330 that didn't do what it should. I have added a 2045 and just recently another 330 which needs some work. I wish my Tandberg was a nice a system as you have. They did make great audio gear.

KentTeffeteller:I know that Viking! It's in my manual for my TR2075(reciever). So you are married to the woman who drew it?I love that Viking.
You are right about the Tandberg factories. They were way ahead of the unions and actually set new standards for how the working class should be treated in a much better way.
I have read somewhere that whenever Tandberg made a new product,it didn't leave the factory before it has been set up in Vebjoern Tandberg's own home, and gave it the go ahead if it passed his picky ears.
By the way,did you know Vebjoern Tandberg personally(just damn curious..)

SpeakerLabFan:Nice reciever,that TR2030.I had a TR2025(blue scale) before I ended up with my present TR2075 about 3 1/2 years ago.
You ask if we see a lot of Tandberg in Denmark.Well, both yes and no.The top-of-the-line gear was/is quite rare in Denmark.Denmark is a small country(5 mill.) and nobody had any money in the 1970'ies.We see a lot of the smaller Tandberg-gear though. The bigger stuff most of us get it from especially Germany. They had money and a big market in the 1970'ies.
I bought my TR2075 in Germany. But it's an american model,I can tell.I have three 'plugs' on the back of the reciever. That is not allowed in Europe.
I also bought my TL3520(speakers) in Germany.I'm very pleased with my setup!

gladiator335:Yeah,I love my lava-lamp. It adds to the atmosphere in general. I bought that in Germany,by the way.

moinau:Soldiers brought back Tandberg from Europe?I like that! A great 'souvenir' from the 'old world'

I don't have a TV-set.It bores me...I spend a lot of time just enjoying looking at my Wall of Tandberg, while enjoying the excellent sound that this old equipment still produces.

And the 'proof' that it is a Thorens TD150 MkII that Tandberg did very little to,and put their own name on it:

Very cool setup:yes:

I have seen a couple of Tandberg receivers for sale locally and have always been very curious about them. They certainly look very well made!

Vaughn:Most Tandberg recievers are great sounding with the right speakers; ) Trust me,I've been 'testing' for about 4 years now.I have 6 or 7 small pairs of Tandberg speakers. They all sound fantastic, but you cannot put any Tandberg speaker to any Tandberg reciever. In doubt, you are welcome to ask me and I will guide you.
The truth is,that the best Tandberg-sound is when you have a Tandberg reciever(anyone of them from the transistor-age) with MATCHING Tandberg speakers.I'm not saying that you can not get good sound with other speakers than Tandberg, not at all.Bu my own experience is more or less limited to Tandberg, for some reason:thmbsp:

Audiozaz:Here's some pics of my Tandberg CD Player 3015 A.I even took it to the kitchen, because the light in my livingroom is pretty dim:

Here's the very powerfull remote control. It was really something about 23 years ago; )

I see that the open/close button could do with a little cleaning; ) I love this cd-player.I never wanted anything else.

Cheers

Peter

P.S.I'm sorry about the layout.I will TRY and make the pics slightly smaller,if possible,in the future: )

Nice-looking Tandberg receivers! :thmbsp:

I only have two early Tandberg tape recorders, but have always admired the quality of their stuff. It was common in demanding studio situations, for very good reasons. Too bad more companies don't still have such standards!

Thanks for the many pictures!

You lucky bastard! :) That's a Philips swing-arm CDM-2 in there with a TDA1541 DAC chip!

Those early Philips mechanics last forever and that DAC is a classic and my favorite too!

Judging by the exterior, it looks like build quality is up there too. Looks heavy, 12.5lbs according to the manual.

I gotta find me one of those now!

Tandberg,

Your TT 500 is basically a Thorens TD-150, not the TD-125, which is quite different and came out considerably later.

Great system you have there.

Jorge

Hifi Nut: Man,you are right!I will correct it!: )Thank you. But it is still a MkII; ) Anyway,to me it's my Tandberg TT500: )

Tandberg,

I didn't know Vebjorn Tandberg, but my wife, twin brother, and her parents knew him very well. He was very good to them. I wish I had knew him. Norway is beautiful, I love the country and it's people. King Harald V is my wife's grandfather. I love fine Tandberg gear and it is among the finest the world over.

Here's another beauty shot of the 3015A, with matching remote. Forgot where I found this (better pic than I have of my own deck) so I'm borrowing it here w/o permission.

There were apparently two versions of this player, 14 bit and 16 bit and using either two TDA1540 or the TDA1541. I have to double-check but I think mine is the 16 bit/TDA1541 version and the one I've been working on is the 14 bit version.

I love that Tandberg design and quality throughout! I still kick myself for not grabbing the one little receiver I saw at a moving sale 3 years ago, I circled the house to grab some jazz albums form the other room, and when I returned to the living room, 15 minutes later, it was gone.
Next time I'll not worry about the wattage, I'll appreciate it as a design statement.

Jdurbin1:You are right(again),there was two versions of TCD3015A.It's obvious when you see the text below the tray:

Here's the 3015A you have posted a picture of(is it yours?)
tandberg3015a.jpg

And here's my own TCD3015A:
tekstoy.jpg

I think my TCD3015A is the 14 bit version. On the TCD3015A you are flashing it says 16-bit.It doesn't say anything on my own.I don't mind one bit: )
It's a great cd-player.My cd-player is the newbie in my setup. It's 'only' about 22-23 years old.The oldest piece in my setup is my turntable TT500,wich dates back to the late 1960'ies.

KentTeffeteller:I fully agree with you,Tandberg is very fine gear. And it's not only beautiful and built to last, the soundquality is truly amazing.

Designdweeb:You shouldn't let the wattage be the main factor, when it comes to Tandberg.I'll never forget a session at a friends house. He just got himself a pair of Tandberg Studio Monitor's wich he had hooked up to a Mark Levinson power-amp.It sounded okay, but not impressive, really. Then he hooked up the Studio Monitor's to a 55 Watt(8 Ohm) Tandberg TR1055 from the early 1970'ies.We all just sat there with our mouths open...That little reciever beat that huge Mark Levinson, when it came to good sound. My friend never looked back after that.He sold the Mark Levinson and bought a Tandberg TR2075(75 Watts in 8 Ohm),wich is the best match for Tandberg Studio Monitor's.Here's his setup:

hjemmehosmashuro.jpg

You can see the TR1055 next to the portable Tandberg TP41.And a Tandberg Studio Monitor at the window.

I used to have Tandberg Studio Monitor's as well. One day another friend and me wanted to test wich reciever was the most 'powerfull',in handeling the Studio Monitor's.His Sansui was a G8700D with 120 Watt in 8 Ohm:

g8700dbf.jpg

That Sansui was no match for Tandberg Studio Monitor's.Not at all(we both agreed on that).75 Watt's from Tandberg TR2075 is still the best I've heard with Tandberg Studio Monitor's,anywhere; )

Here's the Tandberg Studio Monitor's:

745pictbigtandbergstudi.jpg

Originally Tandberg Studio Monitor's came with stands. This pic is only to show you what I'm talking about; ) 12" bass....it goes deeeeeeep!: )
