Micro Seiki dd-40

I picked up a Micro Seiki dd-40 turntable.
It had a few problems.

1.The Dust Cover is missing.
2.The counter weight is missing.
3.The Arm lift/elevator is missing.
4.It came with a Signet 1Ea cart with broken stylus.
5.It was real dirty.

I cleaned it up real good.I took the counter weight off of my Thorens td-160
to see if it would fit.It was too loose,but it still worked until I can find a replacement.
I put a stanton 680 EL cartridge on it until I get a replacement stylus for the Signet.I may be able to use a elevator part on a non working sansui turntable that I have.

I hooked it up to my stereo,balanced the tone arm,set the pitch control.
All I can say is wow!This turntable sounds amazing!

Any information about the Turntable would be appreciated.

Yea,I think you are right.I told my wife that I rescued another turntable.:D
It did clean up real good,and other than the counter weight and the elevator missing it's not too bad.

It does sound awesome and I only paid $50 for it...:thmbsp:
 
The tonearm is a variation of the Micro Seiki MA-505. A fine arm indeed. Vinyl engine has the manual for that arm which might be of some help. Good pickup overall.
 
You did well -- the headshell alone seems to go for what you paid or more (which makes me wish I'd kept mine), and the arm is a fine one. The tracking force/antiskating system is a really nice way of dealing with both issues, but can be baffling if you don't have the manual or already know how it works. So check out the manual at Vinyl Engine.

Do you have any ideal what the weight and dimensions are for the counter weight.I know a guy that works at a machine shop that might be able to make one.

You could eyeball it from the manual. I had a DD 40, which had the headshell, but a simplified arm. That counterweight was simply a conventional japanese counterweight, and any that fit would be fine. It's the stub size that matters -- measure it, and see if anyone has a match lying around.
I looked for a counterweight for a Grace 747 for a long time before finding out that some of the Technics counterweights fit perfectly. Didn't look right, but also didn't cost an arm and a leg to either buy one or have one fabricated.

Hi there,
Assuming that the arm-base components are still there you will need the lifter pin and the curved segment under the arm, with fixing screws. I have these spare from a DD-40 arm which I am converting to universal mount, so if you want them send me a PM. (I'm in the UK).

Update...phonomac hooked me up with the missing elevator lift that fits a works perfect.
The hard part was finding a replacement counter weight.
With the help of phonomac,He gave me the weight and measurements for the counter weight.I work with a guy whose dad works at a local tool and die shop. I gave the guy I work with the information and some pics of the counter weight.The next day my coworker comes in and hands me a perfect looking and fitting counter weight.:thmbsp:
