Replacing RCA cables on Technics 1200: What is recommended?

Hey people, I am going to be rewiring a Technics 1200 here in the coming months and I want your ideas on the RCA cables I should use. This table will be for home use and I don't mind spending a little more money to do it right the first time. I've had some tell me that the M5G cables from KAB are good and I am leaning that way mostly because I prefer a uniform branded product but I'm not wedded to the concept.

Any ideas?

Bluejeans cables makes some fine interconnects. If you are on the cheap, monoprice has great cables for next to nothing. That is about all I use for everything.

go to kabusa.com and get the m5g cables. It's a low capacitance phono cable made by Technics specifically for the 1200.

Agree on the m5g's the problem may be getting them. thedelihaus has an arm of mine he is finishing up the rewiring and damping mods which I'll be sending to my son for a replacement on a 1200 that's on permanent loan. Paul had difficulty getting them, (it took quite awhile for KAB to get them in stock and they may be out of them again).

With the demise of the 1200 in the Panasonic catalog as a current product new parts accessibility on some items will likely start to become an issue.
 
Gepco VDM250D Try these you can buy it per ft so don't be scared off when you first find these as most have the price for 500 to 1000 ft rolls. It's wonderful cable, I have ones on my JVCY66F and i couldn't be happier.

Blues Jeans LC-1 By shrinking the center conductor to 25 AWG and foaming the polyethylene dielectric, we were able to get capacitance down to an extremely low 12.2 pF/ft

Just can't be beat :thmbsp:

This cable looks interesting. They don't have capacitance in the specs - have you measured it?

When I bought my KAB SL-1200MK5 a few years back, it was shipped with the Cardas tonearm rewire mod. KAB also mounted a pair of female RCA jacks on the rear of the table, allowing use of different interconnects as desired. For interconnect, I use RCA cables intended for video use, as these are low capacitance and well suited for phono use.

It's a very nice setup and as already suggested, you might contact KAB for parts.
 
Since you are going to rewire the tonearm, why don't you go ahead and remove the pcb as well. KAB sells a turret board that you can solder the Cardas wire to and your diy rca from Blue Jeans.

I'm about to do the same, still waiting for my Cardas wire to arrive in the mail.

Yes the capacitance is around 14 to 16pf per foot. There very low capacitance and another nice thing is there very thin cables which is nice as they will fit the hold downs on older technics tables such as the 16 17 and 1800MKII series

I have a set of Belkin's as well on one of my modded 1800MKII's. There one of the 1505 series. Can't tell much about them though I haven't listened to the table in a long time all I can remember is I liked them. But there a bit on the heavy side and not very flexible.
 
Just curious - is a turret board considered to be better than a pcb? Why?

I was confused about this myself.

The purpose of the pcb is to connect the tonearm wires to the rca cable/ground and keeping the wires secure with a clamp to act as a strain relief.

The only reason a turret board would be better is if it provides a cleaner path for signal transfer between the tonearm and rca wires.

I spoke with Kevin from KAB and he informed me that the turret board was never a popular item. He did let me know that within a few weeks he should have a new pcb designed that will have improved conductivity.

I have a SL-1200M3D, I replaced the RCA cables with an RCA jack plate from KAB. I am using Emotiva cables from there that are 56pF/M, mine are .5M so the capacitance (in theory) is 28pF. Using the jack plate makes experimenting with different cables easy :thmbsp:

I also replaced the tonearm wire with Cardas and used Cardas wire (shielded) to go from the tonearm wire to the RCA jack plate. I completely bypassed the little circuit board.
