Fried Monitor and Sub - BWI - $450

Well these look REAL interesting! I do believe they are Full Range... not sure if I should say RUN, but if anyone grabs these, let us know how they sound! :thmbsp:

Thanks, you just helped me identify the woofers that were used as replacements in my IMF TLS50 Mk. II's that came from a former Fried distributor :thmbsp:

It is a system with 4 speaker cabinets (2 monitors, 2 subwoofers). Very rare system that sounds great.

Monitors are the Model C
Subwoofers are the Model O

They may be versions "2" for each, as the manual that I have described C/2 and O/2, but I am not sure."

Always glad I could help you out Mech! So what are the details on the Woofer? Do you know who made it? Was it built by Fried?

And yeah, the fact that you could move the Monitors around on top of the TL Bass Unit is pretty cool. I bet you could really dial these in for a room!

Not sure I'd call theem "attractive", but they sure are interesting! And I bet they sound AWESOME! :thmbsp:

I'm not too familiar with these speakers. Can anyone shed some light as to what is in the subwoofer box? Is it just a single driver in a transmission line box?

Correct-a-mundo... and I bet they do 20Hz +/-3db... :yes:

That is a LOT of speaker for $375! I've seen the satelites before, but never the twin subs. I'm sure they would hold their own against anything made today for many times the price. The new "Bud Frieds" for $2,000 would hide the heads in shame. Amazing.

And just read the Brochure... sounds like these may have been a kit?

The review is interesting... it sounds like you have the later "C/2" as opposed to the "B/2" they refer to... and the CL Ad states you have the "O" Line but the review alludes to the "T" and a subsequent "D" version of this "which is a separate cabinet". I'm wondering if you have the "D's" or the original "T"??? :scratch2:

And I love how they allude to there being little or no muscial content below 100Hz... ahhh, yeah, what ever!

And just as I guessed... 20Hz +/- 3db... now that is Full Range!!!

It all seems a bit cryptic. As best I can tell I have the C or C/2 satellites with the O or O/2 subs.

They do have a 'kit' look to them.

Another AKer here who loves his Fried speakers said these are the later C/2 and O/2. In their time they came prebuilt - however you could also just buy the drivers and build the kit yourself.

These are pretty much the cream of the crop of Fried speakers from that time from what I understand, so you got yourself a great set of speakers. These were the first model to use a series crossover I believe as well.

Those are indeed the TOTL Fried model for their time.

I sent Ohighway a copy of the crossover plans I have.
I will be curious to see if the crossover specs are the same?

The C2 and O2 use the same exact enclosure as the first model C and O.
The C2 use aperiodic loading and the O2 use the 1/4W T-lines.
Transparent Sound sourced the polypropylene cone woofers.

The C2 models serial no. C1801K and later were wired using the series crossover configuration. The switch to the series crossover were also used in the entire line of Fried speakers.

There were two versions of the C2 and O2 model.
The first versions used the Dynaudio D-28H like the first model C.
The woofer frames were the square type like the first model C and O that used the Dalesford drivers.

The other question is are the tweeters the Scan Speak 2008 or the Hiquphon 2092 Fs?
I heard an early C3L model that used the Scan Speak 2010 tweeter.
The Hiquphon tweeters were used in later versions of the model C3L- C6L They also used 1/4W T-lines for the mid bass driver.

Thanks to sm19422 for forwarding that information. I'll be the first to say the speakers are a bit of a mystery crossed with what appears to be a bit of a science project. Nothing looks real straightforward at this point so I can use all the information I can get.

That being said, I did manage to muscle the bass bins down to the basement, and get everything hooked up (a mystery in itself). Preliminary listening results are very positive.

I'll take some pictures and post in a separate thread later today.
