When trolling the junk/ 2ndH. shops in the past 24 hrs (29/30 Nov. 07), I've found (I can't believe it): Pioneer SX 727; HK 930 (Twin Power) and a Sansui Model Six, each one going for about $60.00 (!). Which one guys???

PLEASE NOTE EDIT - THE HK930 WAS PURCHASED FOR $70.00(!!!), WITH GREAT HELP FROM AK MEMBERS - IT IS SO COOL! BUT NOW I NEED ADVICE ON TEETHING PROBLEMS PLS, WHICH I AM IDENTIFYING ON THE 2ND/ THIRD PAGE - AS WELL AS A SPEAKER I.D. PUZZLE. PLEASE AND THANKS. og

Why not test them, then buy the one in the best shape? Most thrift stores (at least the ones I go to) have outlets set up to test stuff before you buy.
 
For me, it would be a toss up between the H/K and the Sansui. The H/K would probably win, though, but only by a small margin. Now, if the Sansui was an integrated amp per chance, there would be no question. But that's just me.
 
Thanks guys, I plan to test them tomorrow, if they are still available. The 'P' and the 'HK' are 50 miles away from the Sansui - one decision is 'Which direction to go first'.

Am I hearing that there is not much to choose between these models (for marginally different reasons, maybe)? Then it will be the straight application of my eyes and ears (like that's not what it always comes down to).

But is there any unique "must-have" feature that I could be made aware of here???
 
HK 930 has twin transformers og, would be the one I'd pick(hopefully she's mint). :thmbsp:
 
Thanks Westend, that's what my intuition had started to tell me. My rational (data-gathering) mind has heretofore made me a lot of money and also got me into a fair bit of trouble, from time-to-time, so as I get older the 'gut-factor' is getting more air-time. But I would still appreciate some detailed specifics, if anybody has them to offer.
 
That's the way, Bolly! She seems to weigh several tons more that the others, which I'm reading is a big clue.
 
When in doubt, weight is a good thing to go by.

Of course, I'm assuming they're all in comparable cosmetic and functional condition.
 
I have 2 HK-930's....classic design and very heavy.

Only problem is, both only have audio out of one channel.

Depending on condition and if they work would be my deciding factors...
 
The Pioneer and Sansui are both two steps below TOTL while the HK is TOTL (or I believe it is, I'm not an HK maven). I'd go for TOTL any day.
 
I'm Googlin' my head off here, while waiting on these great replies from everyone. I hear the TOTL argument - a local salesman tried to sell me the Luxman R-115 but I had him order-in my R-117 and have never, ever regretted that.

I've mellowed, somewhat since those days tho' and I'm now looking for the sexiest-sounding/ looking/ behaving (as in 'low-maintenance') piece that I can afford (same as a receiver :-)). Everybody, so-far, naturally, likes what they know about their own. The Sansui circuits are starting to (figuratively) sound sexy to me at this hour - I will consult my ears tomorrow. Meanwhile, if someone can articulate the 'edge' of one over the others, a la bolly's post - that would be really helpful.

I'd go for the H/K. I have the 430 and it is one of my best sounding receivers, and would love to find a 930. I love Sansui and own and run Sansui, but with these choices I'd go H/K. Good luck...I don't think you can really go wrong whichever you choose.

Like you said, I can hardly go wrong, whichever I choose (the auditions should reveal all).
However, if any of you early risers see this and have two-penneth to share . . .

The Pioneer SX-727 uses proprietary speaker plugs. If the unit you're interested in doesn't have them you can use male spade plugs, instead.

I don't know which, if any, have pre-amp to amp jumpers but that is a feature I always like.

Good luck with your purchase. The fact that you're not buying all three is counter to my obssesion but I understand how addiction starts and it has started. j/k :D
 
My H/K 730 has preamp jumper plugs so probably the 930 will too. I think they both are TOTL right? Just from different years.
The 630 was the near TOTL?
 
I too, vote for the HK. If nothing else and you don't care for it, you should make a few $$ by flipping ito on eBay.

Have you given them both the Deoxit treatment? Is generally the first and least expensive place to go.
