I have a few pieces. 70s, early 80s vintage. Love them.
They don't show up much around here.
 
I don't see too many Akai pieces around anywhere. I only have a GX 4000D open reel deck that I bought new in 1982 and it works fine.
 
I have a reciever AAr30 if I recall correctly. I think it is a superior sounding unit. It is very neutral and clear. I love the esthetics too.

Yes it's looks like a museum indeed, but a little one :) If I had bought all the stuf I liked, than you can triple it I think, and that's the problem, I've no space anymore... :(

It's nice to hear that all three of you also have a AKAI unit, and nice one too!

My collection has started with 4 AKAI units of the 'Clarity GX 730 Compo' set,
which was a gift of a friend..., than I got sick... AKAI sick :p

Much later and lots of crap and work brought me this beautiful sets... Thank you all for your interest,

I, too, do not notice much these days in terms of Akai. I would imagine there would be more interest in this fine brand. I almost never see Akais on the used market--this means that people like them.
 
My one and only vintage akai piece. I picked it mainly because of the unique tuning dial.

I started with AKAI. Sadly I no longer have the gear except a TT which is somewhere in storage. Later on I have bought couple of pieces which are now used as interior decoration pieces at my office. I did use the tuner though until recently when I replaced it with a different one in my #1 set.

I have a AA-1150. I've had a AA-R22 which I bought new and hated and a AP-B1 turntable that was cheap but ok. Both the R22 and turntable are long gone. The AA-1150 is a keeper.

I think I can see an aa-1175 and aa-1200 amongst the silverware too..:thmbsp::thmbsp::thmbsp:

What you see is a AA-1150 (mint), AA-1175 (defect and not mint) and the AA-1200, rare and almost mint, some letters are gone, but it's a bufalo I can tel you... :) This one I connected to the SW-170, 80Watts and a 15" woofer, it sounds good :)

I like silverware. I do not know why there is such an emphasis today (and in the past 20 years or so) on black equipment. To me, the two just do not compare. What could be nicer looking than a beefy, blocky silver integrated or receiver with a wood cover?

In fact, if I could find a nice piece of silverware (integrated or receiver), I would buy it...except those dated speaker connectors on the rear are always an issue (I use banana plugs).

Hey there. I have one Akai piece in my gear collection. The tube-powered 1710W reel-to-reel deck from 1968 (Not my picture).

I spent a month in Holland back in '95 (Maybe the greatest month of my life :D ).
 
I had an akai turntable, nothing too special, gave it to a friend getting into the game. Have a robberts 770x (rebranded akai m8) r2r that I use for the amps on my phono section
