Frazier speakers from a movie theatre - any info?

SpeakerLabFan

< speakerlab 7's
I hit a yard sale yesterday with a beast of a speaker on the front lawn - Fraziers. The other one was in the basement. I talked with the seller, took some pictures. The back of the cabinet identifies as "Model X-15" and the horns are labeled "F-333-300-Horn."

These came out of a local movie theatre. Seller is moving and no longer has room for these. I'm chatting with the seller by email today. :smoke:

I've done a bit of research here and I know that Frazier is an outfit out of Dallas, TX; well respected, and the Frazier Dixielanders are pretty special. Does anyone have any information on these Frazier speakers? Anyone heard them? Thanks for any thought. :thmbsp:

Why aren't these at your house right now?

I've never seen Frazier theater speakers, but I'm inclined to think they're probably pretty nice. Paging pmsummer...

Holy Crap !

I thought the biggest Frazier was the 11.

You found a model 15.

Dick, could be the holy grail.

They also look like the martian space ships from the original War of the Worlds.

<grin>

Really Mark,
I told him they belong in a Laurie Anderson performance
art show at the paramount !

LOL. Ya know, they do. That would be a nice double-take to put them out on the lawn at dusk for the guests, while they're like ...WTF is that Hendrix doing peeling my scalp from skull? :D

Gee thanks for the encouragement guys. I guess I should expect as much from this crowd, you guys are as hopeless as I am... :thmbsp::D

Ok, I just spoke with the seller and am picking them up tomorrow. :screwy:

I will post more pics and info as I have it. So with any luck I will be wrestling this pair of War of the Worlds alien space ship speakers into my truck and basement tomorrow. I'm hoping I can get both pairs into my truck in one trip if we remove the horns. :thmbsp:

If those had been in Portland I may have picked them up just for the cabs & woofers and replaced those horns with my altec drivers and horns. :D
I actually picked up a couple of small speakers at a garage sale yesterday with 8"? woofers and smaller fazier horns. They were completely beat up but they were only $3.00. I pulled the woofers out and they have huge magnets on them. Look kinda like old advent drivers.

Hi SLF,

Whoa! You are a lucky Man indeed! Had I been at that yard sale and seen you walk away from those Fraziers, I'd of POUNCED all over them like a Panther! No doubt they are meant to be yours! Best of luck with your new toys.

Regards,
SixCats!

Those look very similar to the Frazier speakers we use at the local community theater. Same color even :thmbsp: Very smooth and real sounding, great for amplifying vocals.

I was looking at the cabinet and it looks like there is a blank covering a space above the LF driver that could house another horn.

Those speakers look like they are gonna be fun! Congratulations - my cousin just bought a pair of smaller Fraziers and cannot stop going on about them.

I couldn't imagine parting with a pair of Fraziers like that if I had them... those are pretty few and far between, and a hell of a great souding speaker.. .they look to be in really super great shape too..

Those are great speakers. The plate on top of the woof with the rounded parts, is removable and, I think, fits an Altec 511 or some other horn driver. But with the horn you have on top, you don't need anything else. Go through the crossovers and you have speakers for life. Good find.

I figured these misfits would be interesting to you Susurus. :D:thmbsp:

...with any luck I'll have them home and in my backyard tonight for a listen and some pictures. I guess a soundtrack would be appropriate to listen to - maybe Easy Rider. Thanks for all the comments and info, now I'm curious to know what's in the cabinets. The seller did say that the one speaker on the lawn was heavy as hell to move out of the basement, maybe there's another driver in there?

Are you hoping they're Speakerlab?:D Brad

Well in this case no - hoping to find they are 100% pure Frazier model 15's, whatever that means. :D

to be honest, I'm not quite sure wtf I'm getting into, but what good adventure is without an element of risk and misgivings? :D
