I was wandering around to a few thrift stores this week...not much about, except lots of cassette decks...Akai's and Technics.. I came across a good pair of 10" R/T Subs...large ceramic magnets. I'll put new Dust caps on..because of a little dent in each. A perfect replacement for my vintage 10" RTR's foamies..someones cat clawed! Foam surrounds seem nice a firm + thick, on the woofers The price was right "1/2 Price Day".. @$5.00/pr I just need to spruce em up...a little dusty! My RTR's have a 10"woofer,12" passive & a Philips dome tweeter. I have them stored away..and don't remember the model#'s. Not Uploading Pics!! I will have to try later!!

Pickins are slim in this area, but I did come across A JVC KD model cassette deck, but looked beat up & a single Advent Prodigy speaker without a grill cover at a local thrift store. I did not even ask for prices. I too will have to keep on looking.

Sure would like to find some nice speaks in the $10-20 price range.

Slim pickens for audio here too..... even the ubiquitous dual cassette decks aren't showing up in the numbers they once did unless I'm just getting good at ignoring them (never really liked tapes) .....still plenty of VCR's though.

I did get a great deal on a Toastmaster toaster oven, Though :D Seriously, it looks like it's from the late 70's early 80's and was never used :thmbsp: It looks like it sat out of the box for quite awhile and got dusty and them someone wiped it off poorly and the water spots got etched into the chrome or something..... kind of like what finger prints do inside a PC. It also has some discolored chrome inside the door, but it obviously was never cooked in...... the racks/pan/bottom are all perfectly shiny, just like new. The box looks like it sat in a basement or garage for a few decades...... no manual Though.
 
GW Finds....

At the GW today..I left behind a pair of vintage RTR 12 EXP's (2-Way 12" woof + 2 1/2" tweet)for $39.99...I would have liked to have snagged the 2 RTR speaker tags!!! There was also a Pair of Boston Acoustics A60's rotted out for $59.99. I ended up with a Pioneer CT-F2121 Cassette Deck for $4.99 & a large Sharp Center Channel Speaker, for $4.99..which I am swapping in 2x Energy 5" woofers into!! Very nice Gray colored front grill!!

Last week I picked up a Sony TC-399 RtR at Salvation Armyfor a $4.95 donation.

I replaced the belts and lubed it. It runs perfect. It has the Ferrite and Ferrite heads. The particle board case is a little rough but you can't see it on the shelf. The cosmetics on the front panel(which is black) are perfect!
This model was available with a silver front panel too.

Couldn't find the other "thrift store finds" thread...so I'm adding to this one.

Picked up some Boston HD7's ($14.99) and some Sonics AS-67's ($4.00), always nice to have some smaller speakers when testing out the multi-speaker *units.

*Finally got around to deoxiting and cleaning the face plate on a Pioneer QX-949. :)

The SallyAnne produced a pair of lowly Yamaha NS-55's today, for $6.00/pr. I found 1 dead tweeter..and grills that are non removable! I should have left them on the shelf!! Cheap crap!! Well..2 Yamaha tags out of the deal?? UPDATE.....swapped the pair of Yamaha NS-55's for a single Koss 55 Dynamite tweeter I needed !! Great swap!

Those are Yamaha S8M's at the bottom of the pic I posted. I tried to pry the covers off of mine too....I finally gave up. :)
 
Some here may hate or kill me for this, but two evenings ago I walked away from a Marantz Esotec PM-6 amp in great condition, including the front door panel thing with intact lettering on it. The asking price was $200, and I had the cash in my pocket and the money in the budget.

I'm also resisting (for a few days already) a cheap pair of Marantz Imperial 6 speakers. Someone stained the wood veneer black, and they are a little dusty, but otherwise fine, with good drivers.

I think I'm finally on the path to being truly, truly "cured"...
 
I found a pair of Advent Mini IIs for 9 bucks the other day. Figured they'd make good computer speakers.....I was not wrong.

Arkay, I think you're rubbing off on me. I walked away from a pair of Mission 764's today. I came back to them and there was a young man looking them over.
Got to talking to him about all the different speakers I had and he in turn talked about his. I ended up giving him my shopping cart so he could grab the Missions.

I'm not saying I'm cured...just a little more reserved. :D
 
Some of the posts here remind me of when I used to spend a lot of time at junkyards. You used to find all sorts of parts for mid-1960's cars for practically free.

Not any more.

Time marches on.
 
I picked up a Pioneer SX-3600 receiver for $30 that needed nothing more than some De-oxit in the volume control and a pair of Polk S4's for $10.I saw a single B&W DM110 for $50-couldn't find the other one- probably would have bought the pair) My best GW find of all time would have to be the Marantz Model 19 receiver with working scope for $22.50. I used to find nice vintage stuff all the time, now all I mainly see are VCR's & cassette decks and those damn Aiwa 3CD/dual cassette mini system things

Yup.

For me it is all about garage sales.

Picked up an immaculate one of these with "matching" speakers and even the smoked plastic speaker stands for $10 last summer:

Nice JVC! I need to start hitting up the yard sales again once the weather warms up a bit. At one community yard sale years ago, I had to stop halfway through to go home & unload my my car- I literally had no more room
