Quick Comparison Question

Hello, first post.
I am putting together an inexpensive basement system for an extra turntable. I am looking at a Craigslist purchase of a pair of bookshelf speakers. Both pair are in the $50 range. My choices are a pair of Baby Advent II's or a pair of JBL 2500's.

i have a pair of the 2500s i bought when they first came out to use with a television. they are decent speakers that have little to no bass and the tweeter is not the best JBL ever made, to be sure.

i have been toying with modding them and there was a web page where a guy re-tuned the port and added some stuffing etc.

i have not owned the baby advents but heard them a lot in a practice room at the college where my wife took music lessons. the music coach would play music over them while she was waiting.

my impression in the small room was that they sounded better than my 2500s with better bass and smoother treble but seemed to have slightly less detail.
