Newly acquired 1010 has a hum when using phono. I've tried 2 tt's, pioneer pl117d and technics 1200 mk2, both hum in phono 1 and phono 2, but don't when hooked up to the onkyo. Is this a ground problem? If so where can I look to test phono ground. Also no hum with am, fm, aux. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I was plagued by a similar hum issue on my 737 with my self-grounding Technics table. Several buddies brought over their tables and no problems...even adding an external ground to mine didn't work. Turned out the problem was the cables. For whatever reason, the ground on the pair I had just didn't work. FWIW they were a pair of supposedly "HT Grade" someone gave me as a present. The cheapass ones I swapped in from my snake box were those $1.99 jobbies from RS.

If it's humming in both channels, good chance it's a grounding or cable issue like PapaBear described. Where the TT is sitting could cause a feedback problem as well.

use shorting plugs on the phono inputs and see if there still is hum.
