Trio KA6000 hissing from right channel

Hi,

My Trio KA6000 amplifier has just started hissing at me. The noise, which sounds a lot like an old TV when it's has not been tuned in, appears consistently on each input even when nothing is plugged in. It comes through both speakers, but a lot louder through the right channel.

Can anybody offer me any advice on this?

The amplifier has just recently been serviced, so I am hoping it's nothing too serious, though I'm prepared for the worst.

Thank you in advance.

Pull the preamp-out/main-in jumpers and see what happens to the noise.

FYI, the KA-6000 is chock full of the notorious 2SC458 transistors that are well known troublemakers. There's around 20 of 'em in the amp, and none are to be trusted.

That's actually a good thing, sort of. It does mean that your immediate issue is the power amp, not the preamp. There are eight 2SC458 transistors in the front end of this amp - Q901 through Q906, plus Q915 and Q916. Replace all eight with 2SC2240BL devices and the problem should abate. But you'll likely have intermittent issues until ALL of the C458's are pulled and replaced with something reliable.
