Kenwood KR-9340 quad....Rear side distortion

Hi friends,

I recently acquired a KENWOOD KR-9340 quad receiver with issues.
The REAR side output is less in volume as compared to the FRONT SIDE.

Also, the sound produced from the REAR SIDE is slightly garbled with distortion.

Any ideas as to what the issue may be??... I have not cleaned any of the controls yet. Any suggestions/cleaning recommendations that may help???

Thanks for replies!!!

Congrats on acquiring this lovely monster!

Difference in volume levels between front and rear is normal - the level depends on the quadro mode and rear channels are mainly to produce "3D" soundstage. If the levels will be equal you will get same situation like simultaneous output from two pairs of speakers on "ordinary" 2CH amplifier positioned in square around you.

But if you have distortion in rear channels it could indicate more problems. it could be, as you mentioned, some dirt in controls especially when 4Ch mode was not used for long time. Other possibility is malfuction of chip which transformes stereo signal to quadro signal.

Does distortion appears in both channels equally? And does it emerges in all modes like SQ, RM etc....? Try to move switches in and out several times and check again. If you have deoxit you may apply it rightly when checking switches.
