Replacement transistors for a Yamaha P-2200

Hello Yamaha fans,

I'm new to Yamaha ownership. A coworker recently gave me a Yamaha P-2200 that he used to use for his DJ business. He said it was blowing one of the primary fuses at power-up. When I got it home I replaced the fuse and connected it to a dim bulb tester. The bulb stays bright.

So, I'm thinking it's best to replace all of the driver and output transistors.

The originals are:
Drivers - NEC D381 and B536
Outputs - SanKen 2SA909 and 2SC1586

Can anyone recommend suitable replacements? I can't wait to see those meters dancing

From Mouser or digikey

Onsemi MJ21193G and MJ21194G

BDEnt doesn't have the 2SB536

So.. Go with Onsemi's for the drivers as well.
2SD381 with MJE15032G
2SB536 with MJE15033G

If the drivers are heatsink mounted with a mica insulators or kapton tape. Inspect the little plastic mounting shoulder washer for deformation or damage.
Just in case.

Not sure how I missed it before, but when I was checking the capacitor values, I noticed a burnt resistor on the right channel:

Thankfully, the left channel resistor is good, so I was able to read the color codes: brown - black - red - gold. Looks like a 1000 ohm 5% resistor. I'll add that to my order.

Looks like R128. Hmm .. going to have to test a few more transistors. If you haven´t already.

Yeah, you're right. I haven't ordered parts yet. Going to wait until I have time to figure out exactly what's wrong. No sense in wasting money throwing parts at it.

for starters.. TR109,110,111,112 and TR115 . While your in there check D108.

TR113 must have shorted. Half of it is missing:

Didn't notice it before since it was hiding behind the green cap.

B+D Eneterprises has 2SC1213A for $0.33 each.

Did the others check out OK ? I'd pull and check TR114 if you haven't already. As well as D109 - D111.

I checked the components that avionic recommended, out of circuit. Here are the results:

TR109 – good
TR110 – case blown apart – open
TR111 – open
TR112 – short
TR113 - case blown apart – open
TR114 – short
TR115 – good
D108 – good
D109 – good
D110 – short
D111 – short

And as I mentioned before, R128 is burnt.

I also measured all of the output transistors on the right channel and found that two of the 2SA909 transistors are shorted.

This is all on the right channel. Haven't gotten to the left channel yet.

Usually it is just one channel that meltsdown.Lets hope anyway.:D

In the bad channel-----
Check fusible resistors R132 and 133 22Ω
Also need to verify these resistors are serviceable or not.
R139/140 390Ω 1/4 watt
R141/142 10 Ω
R143/144 .47Ω 5 watt
R147/148 10 Ω
R149/150 .47Ω 5 watt
R153/154 10 Ω
R155/156 .47Ω 5 watt
Aren't we having fun now.....:D

Ok, here's the results:

R132 and 133 22Ω – measures: 22Ω / 22Ω
R139/140 390Ω 1/4 watt - measures: 403Ω / 247Ω
R141/142 10 Ω - measures: 10Ω / 10Ω
R143/144 .47Ω 5 watt - measures: .4Ω / 11.7KΩ
R147/148 10 Ω - measures: 10Ω / 10Ω
R149/150 .47Ω 5 watt - measures: .4Ω / .4Ω
R153/154 10 Ω - measures: 10Ω / 10Ω
R155/156 .47Ω 5 watt - measures: .4Ω / .4Ω

Please note the measurements for R140 and R144.

Also, my meters resolution only goes down to 1/10 ohms, so that's as accurate as I can measure for the .47ohm resistors.

R139/140 390Ω 1/4 watt - measures: 403Ω / 247Ω

Were these measured in circuit ?

R143/144 .47Ω 5 watt - measures: .4Ω / 11.7KΩ

R144 emitter resistor appears to be "cooked"..Put that on your shopping list.
