Yamaha integrateds, old vs. new

Was listening to both of these amps, and I can't decide which one I like better.

CA-810 circa 1979
A-S500 circa 2011

Hmmm... at least Yamaha still makes stuff similar to the old stuff. It's all good.

Did you listen to CD only or did you also try a decent MM cart. Then the result should be quite clear.

Does the old amp have the original caps?

The CA-810 has its original caps. The A-S500 seems to carry a bit more bass authority/control with controls flat than the CA-810 does with my speakers, but the overall difference in sound is pretty close, they both sound great. The visual appeal of the CA-810 is an obvious plus with the meters. Maybe I'll recap the CA-810, or just use it as a phono pre-amp.
