I currently have a Yamaha RX-V1700 that I'm using in my son's bedroom setup.
Here is his setup:
Speakers: Klipsch RF-7, Klipsch RC-64ii
Audio: Yamaha RX-V1700, Rotel RB-960BX (60w x 2) Amplifier
Video: PS4
I just purchased a system on craigslist and it included a Yamaha RX-V665. I need some advice on which is the better receiver to use for his setup.
From what I can see, the benefits of the 665 is it's 2 years newer, has dual sub outs, decodes Dolby TrueHD & DTS-Master, and it has 2 extra HDMI inputs.
The benefits of the 1700 is that it was twice the MSRP ($1200 for the 1800 vs $600 for the 665), has more power (130 x 7 vs 90 x 7), and has a nicer look (ie front door to hide controls).
I'm not really concerned about the lack of power since the RF-7's have a sensitivity of 102db and the RC-64ii center channel has a sensitivity of 99db.
Here are a few pics of his room. Most of the time, he sits in that rocker chair in front of his bed so he's only 2' - 3' from the center channel speaker and the room is 12' x 11' with 10' ceiling.
For his setup, which receiver do you think would be the better fit? My brain says even though the 665 is probably a lower end model than the 1700 was, it still offers more features.
