CR1020 loud hum after ten minutes

Im being tempted by a 1020 that the current owner says starts to hum loudly after ten minutes.

I'm guessing power supply recap.

Yes? No? Something else?

Thanks

Eric

Either that or a transistor .

Any way to tell the difference? Like caps make the 60 cycle humm we all know and love and a transistor more of a crackly hum?

Thanks

Eric

If it hums after it warms up. It could be as simple as a solder connection. Whatever it is, it shouldn't be to tough to figure out.

I just recommissioned one of my 1020's and noticed the same problem. I did a slow start, using a light bulb tester first with 25w, 60w, and 90w.....at least 2hours for each stage. The amp section is dead quiet when I switch the pre off so it must be in the pre stage somewhere. Just wondering if 62sunbeam found his problem? Thanks:scratch2:
