Yamaha HT Receiver as preamp?

I have a Yamaha RX-V3300 that I use for surround sound duties. Could this receiver also serve as a preamp for a separate stereo power amp?

I'm trying to build my first dedicated 2 channel system but don't think I can afford the power amp and preamp at the same time. Was just wondering if I could temporarily use my HT AVR as a preamp until I can save up for a stand alone preamp. I hope I'm not delusional...

Any info/advice/insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes they work really well as a preamp. I use mine going into an older Yamaha receiver for the main amp. Use the pure direct button for the best sound.

I run an RX-V3800 with outboad amps. Works great.

The RX-V3300 should have nearly the same capability to pre-out any channel.
