Kenwood 700m

I have a 700m on route to me.
it needs a bit of TLC...nothing i am not familar with doing.
i've been saving these old girls for some time now--eventually i usually part ways with them at some point to experience another. You know how it goes ;)
I am hoping to keep this one as i've always been found of it's look.

So, this old girl needs a front knob and I know there has been some posts on exactly that. I've PM'd our member who has machined one before, but Iam interested if anyone has figure out what other knobs are interchangable yet as many look similar out there.

Also, this one suffered from a broken front glass. There was one gentleman who I know had one silkscreened before, so I've tried to chime him without luck yet.

Any other suggestions?

Would a gold decal, cut to exact as original silkscreen, if stuck under the glass face work? Iam guessing there might even be a transparent type sticker out there to let the light reflect off it like the original ome did.

I am also im the need of a new speaker selection switch. This is the one where the knob was missing. Where oh where can I track one of those?

Wish me luck, any help, suggestions, tips, or input on this will be appreciated. I'll take pics to post when it arrives to me in a week.

Let's start from beginning when dinosaurs ruled the world

switch for speaker should be at least 10A
that is why improper switches are so quickly dead
replacement with not strong enough will not stay long and may cost a trouble
speakers are inductance what keeps a high current during switching and highly burns contacts
what about this idea

If you can find a place to mount all those relays, sure.

700m is really packed but i will try
i have to exchange:
1. potentiometers because there are two different at least visually and with too short
shafts
2. two rotary switches (plus i have to install relays), they are not original and with too many positions and the speaker one can not control three pairs of speaker and does not look like strong enough to switch over 1A
3. there are three different kinds of binding posts
4. i have to paint a chasis (i did it today on my brake removing totally old scratched finish first)
5. replace all electrolytic capacitors (should i do it?) or at least main filters 22000uF
6. and work with scratched face plate with two dings on edges

what else should i replace in this model, any other capacitors, zeners?
power transistors are not original but all from the same ON series
i will show some steps on a pictures later, i am now still at work

I'd say that if the big 22,0000µf caps aren't leaking that they are the last ones you need to worry about. It's the small ones that generally need the attention first.

thanks, i will cheque them
i just finished for today:
cleaned all four radiators and put new thermal compound under all twelve power transistors
cleaned all units
took off switches and potentiometers
top cover is repainted

working on back panel today

- one new electrical outlet, first from the right (it was broken)
- new binding posts, now all are the same (there were three different kinds before)
- new fuse holder jack (it was broken)
- completely new three relays for future speaker switch system and first fit in

With the relays there, doesn't look like you'll be able to re-install the capacitor-protection board cover.

you are right but i do not have one

do you think i should do something about?

Well, I'd have seen if I could mount them lower to allow enough space to fit that capacitor cover on. I don't know if it's possible, but I'd have tried.

ok, i will try fit it in.

for what exactly it is?
for me it looks like an extra cover or screen
does it shield anything?
