Seems to have white blotches that cannot be felt from the outside but I am thinking it might be "inside" the plastic scale holder....any thoughts?I see a few people have this problem.

Does yours look like this?
Does anyone know if the dial scale is a separate piece from the main faceplate?DSCN4226.JPG DSCN4227.JPG DSCN4228.JPG DSCN4229.JPG

Fairly old thread, so I don't know if the previous respondents will chime in, but I think the answer would be yes. Your example looks similar to the couple that I've encountered on the CR-x40 series.

At least up to the 1040 (that's as far as I can speak from experience), the tuning scale is a separate piece, which can be accessed and pulled up & out after removing the illumination assembly.

Yep.. I concur. The past two I've looked at were similar if not worst.
