Harbeth SHL-5 incoming.

So the question is no longer if I'm going from Harbeth Compact 7s to Super HL-5s, but when they're going to be here. So this thread is a sort of starting over of that topic where I'll share my thoughts on them, when they arrive.

The decision was sealed with the audition. Upon hearing them, I wanted them. Its interesting how we can talk and talk and talk about this stuff, but out in the world, in front of them, it only took me two songs to decide. :music:

I'm not sure of the timing, I'll know tomorrow, and it will be some time before I can free myself from work long enough to get over there during business hours. Hopefully the distributor has them in stock!

It seems odd to consider this part of my downsizing but I'm simply trading gear I already have to get them (current Harbeths and an amp). It will result in less stuff here!

are you also considering skylan stands with these?

I have something here I'm going to try to make work. They're actually old wooden 4-legged stands for something like an AR-3a that I'm going to make more rigid. They can be adjusted for the size of the HL-5s, I just need to brace them a bit more. If I go store-bought, I'm going Foundation:

I heard the Compact 7s on these, and they were excellent. I like the way they look better than the bulky Skylan stands.

My favorite option is this..but I don't know what they are (?):

Awesome, great speakers! Imo the real "sweet spot" in the Harbeth line up: almost as good as the higher models (especially for smaller rooms) and not quite so crazily priced.

And you can always "upgrade" again to the 40.1's in the future. :D

Enjoy! :music:

If you like that look, check out Guizu Nobility Furnishing. http://www.guizu.com.cn/space.php?do=product&catid=7

Can't speak of their quality or company's validity firsthand, but the stuff looks nice.

Umm.....(drool)....awesome?

Absolutely beautiful stands. Bookmarked for future reference.

These are my favorites and happily, specifically for the HL-5!

What do you think they want for them? My guess is somewhere between an arm and a leg. Maybe the whole torso?

Their audio stands are really nice looking, too. Thank you for the link. I may have to rethink my choice of Skylan Stands. Ok, there's no "may" about it. I want these.

My guess with shipping, probably half the cost of the Harbeth's. :tears:

They look absolutely stunning, at least the pictures do.

They said "affordable" in the listing. I can hold onto that word until I hear otherwise. Maybe it means something different in Chinese.

Congrats, John. It is always nice to be able to obtain new gear by simply trading or selling gear that you already have. Those Harbeths look like a dream!

You did well John. I'm sure you'll enjoy the SHL-5 better then the 7's. When I heard them back to back against each other I liked the 5 better also but then again the dealers audition space was a huge and open 20 foot x 60 foot commercial building unit with a ceiling of 15 foot high. It better suited the 5's.

The 5's have a bigger sound stage more open sound and depth. They sound much bigger and effortless compared to the 7's imo. I guess it all depends on what size of space you'll be using them for.

You'll love them

You could design your own stands with the help of a local craftsman and get exactly what you want for stands. I'm sure it will be cost effective as well.
