Robert Plant and Paul Rogers For Rock
Joe Williams
Johnny Adams For roots music
Dwight Yoakim and Merle Haggard for country
Teddy Pendergrass, Marvin Gaye Soul
Bob Marley More original then all the above.

Nobody mentioned Tom Waits yet...

My favourite male vocalist is Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.

actually Tom Waits was mentioned earlier, but you are excused. :D

I like him too, plus:

Paul Rodgers
Billy Bragg
John Martyn
Peter Gabriel
Jim Kerr (Simple Minds)

others too of course but that will do for now.

Another great vocalist was Fritz Wunderlich, he died in 1966 aged 36. An outstanding artist with a very distinctive smooth tenor voice.

I put Tom Waits on at work the other day(I work in a Hospital Supply Chain warehouse) and one girl said it was the worst thing she had ever heard and my other coworker rolled a crash cart over because she said she thought someone was dying. It always makes me want a drink and a cigarette.
