How good is the Pioneer M-22 amp?

I have a pretty decent shot at landing one of these babies. I can find only limited information on the 'net, probably translations and pictures from the original brochures. Does anybody have listening impressions or opinions on this amp? I know it's 30+30W, class A.

Also, any opinions about the suitability of using it with my Barzilay-based E'Waves? I love the sound of these speakers, and anticipate that the Class A amp could make them sound even better...but I don't know.

The M-22 is highly sought after and quite valuable. I've heard Bigear's M-25, which is 100 wpc and not Class A, IIRC. It has a nice smooth sound.

I think the M-25 is Class A up to several watts, then switches to AB.

I'll keep that in mind.

I saw it tonight, and it's truly a work of (audio-related) art. It hasn't been powered on in 15 years or so...but it looks to be in perfect shape, except dust.

never heard one. Wouldn't have to. Tho i have read about them, even if I had never read or heard a thing, I believe the pictures of it pretty much sum it all up.

The M series was Pioneer's stab at being the best....

I'd jump on it....

I won't be getting it for several days. It belonged to a gentleman who lived in the Bay Area. In the mid 90's he became disabled, and moved here to be near family. At that time the amp (and his other gear) was packed away, and never used again.

Now, I'm doing some work for him, and the amp is to be my compensation for taking care of some business that he can't do for himself. I am really excited, though, and can't wait to see how the amp pairs with my E'waves! This even opens up the possibility of bi-amping them, as the crossover is easily convertible, and I would love to use my Kenwood KA-8100 to do preamping and run the woofer, and use the Pioneer to drive the waveguides.

If there's a SERIES20 C-21 preamp laying around you will really want to figure out how to latch on to that as well since it was designed to feed the M-22/25 amps.

I have the C-21 in my system but doubt I will ever be able to find an affordable M-22/25 to go with it. Unless I stuble on to one as it appears you have.

Not gonna happen. I got a bad vibe about the whole deal, and I think the seller got cold feet too.

Oh well, what might have been. I think I'll wrap my arms around my Kenwood KA-8100, and whisper reassurances of my devotion to it.

I had the Series 20 version of that amp hooked up to my Altec 19's for a couple weeks many years ago. The 19's never sounded so good. Almost kept me from buying Stats.
