Sony XDR-F1HD problem

A friend of mine has one of these that he hasn't used in a few years. Decided to pull it out of the closet and try it the other day, and it worked fine for a few minutes, then shut down. He unplugged it and plugged it back in and the same thing. Comes on for a minute, then shuts down.

Anybody have any thoughts as to what might be going on?

Check and see if anything is getting hot. There may be a thermal shutdown. If a capacitor is getting hot, replace it.

Evidently because he didn't have an antenna hooked up to it for FM reception everytime he switched from AM back to FM it would shut down. Don't know if this makes sense but once he put an antenna on it the thing stayed on so looks like problem resolved.
