Sony XDR-f1hd mods

Unbelievable!
The new small block Chevy!
(But I raced a Volvo)
I did the force analog and memory battery mods, but this stuff is wild!!

Sounds like fun, but ...

Features:
Tuner controlling with a computer
Wide frequency tuning range (~60-130MHz and more)
5kHz tuning steps (FM), 1kHz (AM)
Fixed or adaptive IF bandwidth
Signal level meter
Instant tuning to the desired frequency
AM/FM demodulation on any frequency
RDS fast PI mode and error correction
Selectable de-emphasis
Digital alignment of antenna circuits
Selectable AGC threshold level
RF/IF +6dB gain control
HD radio is NOT supported

Huh? Wha??

~~~
I just got into HD radio here, but took the path less traveled ... got a Sony CDXGT710 car head - that has the HD tuner built right in. Powered it up with a 6 amp 12v LED monitor brick, and swapped the F connector for a Motorola plug on one end of a 3 foot antenna patch. That goes to a stacked AntennaCraft FM-6 and Magnum ST-2 antenna array 20 feet up. The 6 amp power supply may sound small for a car radio, but I'm not using the internal amps ... the radio has RCA out that's routed to my classic quad system.
This is a 3kW college station around 30 air miles out off the horizontal yagi pointed right at the tower ...
I can also get stereo FM from around 130 air miles out off the vertical omni when the conditions are right. That's ... pretty amazing for FM ... I guess what they say about car tuners being strong might have some credence.
Whole lot cheaper than an XDR too ... ;-}
