This TT suddenly slowed down and then actually
started turning backwards. Fortunately, I didn't have a record
on at that time. What's going on? Bad motor? Oxidation?

Thanks,
Jeff

starter cap?

bump......

finally got a response over on the TT forum.
someone suggested it might be the starter cap.
I haven't opened this up yet.
Where is the starter cap located?

Thanks!
Jeff

There is no STARTER CAP. The PL-51 is a DIRECT Drive Servo Motor, which IIRC is NOT repairable. The only thing separate from the actual motor is the power supply board, and the speed control pots. CLEAN the pots 1st with DeOxit D-5 and follow up with GOLD.
"DeOxit for Dummies" thread here................. http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=207005

If cleaning the pots doesn't help then you need to get inside with a DVM. The Power supply board is where you'll be taking your voltage readings at. Use the manual, and correlate the drawing voltages with your board. POST THEM HERE.
