Pioneer SA-706/SA-7700: Desperately need some switches

Hi friends,
I have rescued (from a garbage container) an old and damaged Pioneer SA-706...
Pretty scratched all over the body, yet most annoying thing is that 2 switches are missing: both have the code ASK-122.
Obviously, both knobs are missing too, code is AAD-129.
Please, anyone can help me find some originals or some good replacements?
Best regards,
Stanley.

It would help if we knew some basic things -

it is a lever switch, switching action is DPDT, they are the tape monitors

SA-706 IS a SA-7700, and the switches are also listed as being used in the sa-6700.

Thanks Mark! Yes, you're right.
I will only add: ASK-122 is also used by the LOUDNESS control :)
Indeed SA706 and SA7700 share the same service manual/schematics.

I did intensive search but unfortunately I wasn't able to find these switches... in the first place, as I left the knobs (AAD-129) aside for the moment...

But... are there really no equivalents switches produced nowadays?

I know probably nobody(?) is using "tape monitor" these days, but it would be such a shame to leave this amp crippled like that!

I have some knobs and switch caps from an SX-880 receiver that I have no use for. Take a look and let me know if interested.

Thanks for your offer!

Main concern right now is that I don't have the switches... so nothing's there to put the knobs on :(

Oh you're looking for the actual switches and pots!

My understanding is that they're unobtanium as new. So you'll have to watch for items to come up in eBay etc.

Gluck!

Yes Indeed they're hard to find...
I'm not expecting to find "brand-new" switches, my only hope is to find a donor...

I see Pioneer used a lot of flavors for DPDT switches... Why, mechanical consideration?
Are they so different? Can I use some other DPDT-type as replacement?...

I see on Mouser's web site there are pages and pages of various types of switches... Sadly, none seems to be good as a replacement for ASK-122...

Finally, what would YOU do if you were in my situation?!?

Is the PC board empty there? or are the lever arms busted?

LOTS of mechanical considerations to fit a switch in there - these Pioneer lever switches are UNIQUE...
(even compared to other Pioneer lever switches!!)

To get it working, with an empty board position, yes jumpers can be taken between the various connection pads.

I cant find "Kingdom of Ro(ck)mania" on a map, where on earth ARE you?

Lever arms busted. (see attached pic)
Hmmm, are these arms UNIQUE also?... I think MAYBE the switch (case) can be disassembled somehow...
Yet I imagine it'll require some skills to re-assemble it back and to expect it to work well too... :(

:) Hehe, just a combination between Rock (I like rock music) and Romania - poor country where I live most time of the year (rest of time in Belgium, where I am right now)... -> Ro(ck) mania :)

I opened the unit... Total disaster!
Scavenged, 90% of the parts were missing...
Missing wires, PCB destroyed in some places.
Nothing to do about it, from my point of view.

I decided to handle it over to my uncle Nick, for parts or whatever he will decide to do with it.

EoS (end of story).

post a picture or two...

("disaster porn")
:tresbon:
Too late, Mark! Uncle Nicholas took it yesterday...

Now I think I should have tried to sell it on ebay!?
Ummm... nay, they ask 10% + VAT + PayPal's fees, blah-blah... doesn't worth the effort! Finally, I would end up with 1 penny(s!).

Hehe, my wife suggested to put the wreck back to where I found it: at the debris container :)

Well... sometimes miracles happen!
SA-706... returned from the dead!

Uncle Nick came yesterday with a nice surprise!
The SA-706 is 99% complete!
- Nick got the "motherboard" GWK-113 from a donor unit;
- He also found the missing switches and knobs on ebay!

Nick left back home, saying the unit should operate...
I powered up the amp, the relay clicked and there's also light on VU-meters!
I didn't perform any audio tests yet...

I removed the top-cover; Nick did a very good job, all looks pristine!
Yet, I think there's a little problem... Q26 is quite HOT !!! Why?
I'm not a guru of electronics, but as I see on schematics, it's part of the voltage stabilizer for:
- PA3004 (IC)
- VU-meters bulbs (?!?)
- and... the green power-on LED.
Wow, I can even feel the heat when I hover my hand in the area above Q26 !!!

I took a lot of pics (with my mobile phone), but unfortunately now I see only 2 on the memory-card :
1) amazingly huge ELNAs on the power supply
2) the VU-meters (pic taken from inside of the unit).

Regards!
