Every now and then CL in my area comes through with a deal. Picked up this 1991 RX-1130 125 wpc reciever and matching 5 disk CD player w/ remote and manual! The seller bought it new in 91 but it eventually got put on the back shelf due to him going to a Bose system (thank you Bose lol)

I had to deoxit the bass, tone defeat and volume controls and put a LED and resistor in place of the burned out backlight bulb on the surround display.

Had to clean the eye on the cd player and cleaned off the mess of what was left of the belt for the cd tray and put on a brand spankin new rubber band in place of the goo belt lol

Everything seems to be working good know and i'm really enjoying the sound its got.Hooked up in my garage to Pioneer HPM-100's

Sorry to come on here to brag, but none of my friends and family are into stereos and i just wanted to tell someone about my cool find today lol

Ive had a Yamaha reciever since i was 15 yrs old (i'm now 44) the R-8 my mom bought me when she didnt really have the money but still got it for me anyway, bless her heart!!

I've since then got a R-100 and a R-9 and now this one, i really like my Yamahas! All unrestored and still going strong some 30 yrs later!

Great find, congrats! I used to sell those, and came across a similar deal a few years ago on the RX-1130, CDX-1120 and KX-1200 in Ti. Alas, no remote for the receiver.

Very impressive tuner section on the 1130, one of the few receivers with Wide/Narrow settings and .01 fine tuning.

Nice looking Yamahas!
I do prefer those to the later black finish ones. Kudos!

Happy for you allsmith! I don't consider your sharing your good fortune bragging at all. In face to face life there seem to be so very few people who "get it" to share with. We sometimes need some audio friends to simply spend some quality time with. Enjoy it.

Cheers,
James

Thank guys,appreciate it!
Yeah i was like a kid again today playing around with it.I have it in my 45x50 wood pole barn with the hpm 100's up about 7 feet off the floor and about 16' apart on a wooden cat walk built onto the back wall of the building. No ceiling and open rafters with a roof peak about 17' high make for a very interesting sound! Very concert like.

Also hooked up to a 15'' Velodyne sub and the combo was really sounding good! I did get a rise out of my uncles brows when i started to open it too lol! The extra 25 watts compared to the 100w Denon and older Fisher i was using does seem noticeable and it seemed to drive the hpm's more effortlessly sounding. Plenty of power to get me in trouble with my neighbor lol! I'll apologize to her tomorrow and tell her i just got a new stereo and i just had to test it out lol

So far really liking this reciever and cd player, although it does have kind of a strange looking styling thing going on with it, must have been a weird late 80's early 90's thing! I am really digging the remote with this thing though! Im used to having remote for volume but know i can change songs and discs on the cd player too, whoo hoo!

My other Yamaha's have the fine tuning but never have seen the Wide/narrow feature. What exactly is that if you dont mind? I have a nice big homebuilt Tee wire antenna i made somewhere but i'll be darned if i could find it today.i'll try and hunt for it again tomorow

A RX-1100u has been a real workhorse 24/7 hooked up to my computer playing music, talk shows, background sounds for at least 10 freaking years. Did I mention non stop and sounding very good:)?

Congrats on the Natural Sound. I agree with everyone else that you most definitely aren't bragging. I have to do the same thing when I get a new piece of gear since no one that I know IRL cares about audio stuff. We've got to tell somebody and what better place to share than here :)

I've never seen those models before but am liking the color. Glad they are working well for you too. Definite score.

Sorry my barn is a mess,i should be working on getting it insulated and cleaned up instead of playing with stereos lol!

Its nice to have a big open space for a system since you can open it up a bit more and get back away from the speakers

Narrow/wide refers to FM filters. Narrow is used when you have two adjacent stations, where one of the stations is more powerful than the other and 'splatters' over the adjacent station. You use the wide filter for best sound, narrow only when you need it.

Tuning in .01 increments kind of mimics analog tuning, especially useful also when you have two adjacent stations, where tuning slightly higer or lower gives you a cleaner signal, mimimizing interference.

This is most useful of course in urban areas with a crowded FM band.
