Thanks to Mr Avionic I now have a replacement speaker connection block to install. But still looking at what was installed prior makes me wounder what was up?

As you can see the red (+) were both on the same side and the black (-) on the other. But the common ran down the middle two on the inside tying the positive on one channel to ground!

Ohm'd the to wires on the right and they are common to chassis. But three are grey ? Anyone know for sure how this should be wired up?

Two of the (SPKR - ) greys should be tied to chassis ground..The third grey should be traceable to the speaker select switch if it is indeed a spkr+ wire.

I'm going to inspect the strip again to see just how it broke. It might be just an illusion the way it looked mounted. getting ink today and will blow up the area and start tracing the path.
