Lafayette LR 5555A

Newbie here. So in my attempt to run a ground wire between by Technics SLBD20 table and my Lafayette receiver, I apparently broke something.

To begin with, I simply had a lot of buzz even when I connected the new wire (bought online here)

And, even with the wire in correct position, I simply had more buzz than desired. So that issue remains. And, I suppose, I could simply connect a different turntable to the receiver and fix THAT issue.

The big issue is this: Somehow in trying to hookup the ground wire I lost all sound from the receiver. There is no static, no sound whatever (regardless of whether I have the radio or turntable selected). The speakers are plugged in correctly. I was not being rough and jostling the receiver in any major way.

Are there fuses in this particular receiver that might need replaced? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Todd

Got it. Thanks, dnpainting! And fuses are mentioned in the manual. I didn't see any fuses when I opened it last week, though I suppose a fuse in a receiver might not look like a car fuse (or it might have been out of sight). Assuming I can decipher the schematics I should be able to locate the fuse(s).

They don't look like most modern car fuses -- they're most likely small cylinders of glass with silver colored metal endcaps, pressed into spring-loaded holders near the power supply (transformer & filters). There could be fuse holders accessible from the rear apron, too -- these are likely to be clearly labeled and will have either bayonet or screw caps that can be removed to extract the fuse.

They'll most likely look something like this -- although the actual fuse element (wire) inside may well be thinner in the fuses in the receiver vs. this image from www.tubesandmore.com

EDIT: mmmm... nope I don't see fuses where I expected to in this photo (from one of the threads below):

Yes, things move very slowly around here as I have only just checked for the fuse. I found the fuse on the bottom of the receiver. I only saw one and it looked fine (I guess there are no other hidden fuses). There was no blackness, etc, evident in the fuse.

The relay clicks. . . Would it help to just put a new fuse in just in case?

I'm reading through other forums and came across this. Would DeOxit help?

For a newbie like myself, is there anything else obvious that I can do? Otherwise, I would guess I need to get a professional techie.

Thanks for your help,

Todd
