If I had unlimited funds

Well, seeing as how you have unlimited funds, there's no need in settling on the A-S2100 when you could have the A-S3000 for a few thousand more.

For less money, a well serviced CA-2010 will probably sound better.

But there's a good thread/review about the A-S2100...

I seriously doubt that. I have a reconditioned CA-2010. It is a good sounding amplifier, no doubt, but all my other amps beat it, including an A700, an M2, and a Bryston 3BSST. The difference is not big, though. In this league we're always talking about small differences.

I would by ALL the receivers, few pairs of NS-1000 and for sure the A-S3000 with its companion CD player. And the network player I don't remember the name.

Honestly, my first thought was, I would rather have a mint CA-2010. But that wouldn't come with a factory warranty or a remote. Funds being unlimited as they are in this hypothetical scenario, I'd go with the new kid. It's like buying a car. A used car may be the smart purchase, but when you buy a new car you know you're getting something that nobody else has been farting in for a few years.

Unlimited funds? UNLIMITED? I'd get a pilots licence and buy an airplane with 4 large propellers and just listen to them as I flew from one concert to the next.

Cheers,
James

Unbalancced ugly design. The other one with bigger meters looks better.

If we're being honest, from a looks/design perspective, the A-S3000 is the only one in this line I really like, for the reasons you just mentioned.

If Yamaha really wanted a huge seller, they could come out with an amp roughly along the specs and price of the A-S500, except change the layout to closely resemble the A-S3000. They would sell bajillions of those.

Others have chimed in on this already. I REALLY love my ca1010, it sounds great; however even the lower end a-s500 of the new breed I own sounds slightly better to my ears than the 1010. The 1010 has it all over the 500 aesthetically, but not quite there sound wise. Now, I can only imagine how good the a-s2100 or a-s3000 sound in comparison. I'd bet the gap is even wider.

Unlimited Funds - I'd have live bands at my beck and call to keep me entertained. Who needs a stereo?!?
