How to make Apple EarPods sound better: Cheap & Easy

Do you find that although the redesign of Apple's EarPods sound better than prior versions, they still sound muffled and overpowered with bass?

If so, here's a quick, cheap, and easy way to damp them into submission and get them sounding quite a bit better.

Best part is, you only need a bit of clear tape.

First off, put them on and listen to a song that otherwise sounds good, but that the bass is just too much and ruins it.

Then, cut two little squares of clear tape, and on each EarPod cover both vent holes at the bottom of the housing near where the cable enters. Leave the single top one open.

Put them back on and compare to the before.

It might sound a bit lacking at first if you've become accustomed to how bassy they are, but give it a sec for your ears to adjust. Bass is still there, but not as prominent. Still strong, but tighter, and not near as boomy and overwhelming. Mids, vocals, and highs brighten up a bit, and the whole sound sounds more balanced.

Not bad, huh? :thmbsp:
