TC 520 keeps stopping...please help.

I picked up a TC 520 at a church sale for $5...I figured it would be good in the work shop. I cleaned it all up and went to test a tape. It starts playing then stops. I checked the belts..they all look good. The take up reel is spinning...I cannot figure out why it will play for a few seconds then stop...Any ideas?

Is the tape counter turning? If not it engages the auto stop. I'd check that first.

It is turning...is there a switch from the counter to the auto stop that could be bad? I disconnected the autostop solenoid and it plays fine, but I would rather it worked correctly.

some cassette decks used a magnetic reed switch some used a lamp and photocell. I'm not familiar with the tc 520 to give you a definite answer.

That's a nice yamaha cassette deck www.hifiengine.com should have the service manual for that deck. It's worth fixing the tc 720 was totl.

Yes , automatic stop is activate because your trouble is coming from a belt who slip and do not keep turning the magnet (84) behind the counter . :yes:
This keep the reed switch operating in wrong condition . :nono:
Change this belt (83) and everything will go back to normal function of the tape deck :thmbsp:
