That's big bucks...too big currently. See how they sell, and watch the price drop on them?? Certainly woul love to own one. Wait for some depreciation first..

So that's $2000 in 1978 money. :)

So what was their TOTL or high-end integrated selling for in 1978?

I certainly don't recall anything as high as $2,000 per unit then. I don't think I paid 2 grand for any single unit until somewhere around '90, with dollars considerably inflated since '78. Still have my receipts, but I'm too lazy to go look.

(Actually, it'd be interesting to have MSRPs on their major bits over the years in a table adjusting for inflation to put them in constant dollars.)

their integrateds didn't sell for that much, i think either the CA-1010 or CA-2010 was $1000. but i mentioned in another thread that the B-1 VFET power amp retailed for something like $1800 while it was available, which was initially in 1974. then the rarer Yamaha BX-1 Class A monoblocks were more (possibly $4000), but that was later, 1980-81 or so.

i'm really looking forward to that upcoming review. hopefully i'll be able to find a way to read it!

I believe the TC-880-2 was about $2800 in 1977. Of course that was a R2R. They sold about 500 of them.

I assume they will not sell thousands of these?

In that price range there are some real solid competitors out there. If Yamaha did this right, they may compete quite well in this price range. It would be good to see Yamaha take on the best like they once did.

Gotta go buy a lotto ticket...
