Fisher 400

I passed on a fisher 400 in a console today. The console would've been $225 plus another twenty in tax, and it had a Garrard and some Jensen 12's in it, too. I feel bad for leaving the unit, but I don't really need a receiver. I'm giving priority to separates these days. So, why do I feel like I did something bad?!?

well, the good news is someone else was able to buy the console and was probably pretty darn excited about it.

Any Fisher 400 is worth more than that unless it's missing the tubes AND the transformers, or was run over by a truck or something.

You're well within your rights to pass over it, and whoever ends up with it will surely appreciate that.

Trust me... I knew it was worth twice that by itself. I wanted it... but, then I reminded myself that I have an 800 at home waiting to be restored.

selling is a hassle, some feel the need... if your a hobbyist it really does not take long for the pile to grow enough to make your hobby seem like drudgery. I would have passed as well

It was still there, so I grabbed it for $150 plus tax. I'm going to load it up in a bit. I've got an addiction and need help!

I tested it out. They had it playing at the sale, so I figured a variac would be pointless by now. At the sale, the right channel wasn't working. Well, after reseating the tubes, both channels are fine. It does have some very difficult to move switches and the loudness switch is busted off. The knobs are 99% there... one is missing the gold trim ring. Otherwise, it just needs a wood case and it's good to go!

I'm on my phone until tomorrow or Monday, so pics are not gonna happen until I get home.

I cleaned it up, put it in a case I had from an 800, and changed over the one working bulb to a pair of blue LED's for a different look.

It's definitely cleaner than my 800... I could tell the piece was cared for. The console it came in was very clean, with no real scratches or scrapes.
