McIntosh MR 75 Tuner

I have been looking for a McIntosh MR 75 Tuner, there does not seem to be any around. Are they that rare? Was there a problem with them that precluded people from purchasing them back in the day?

Acc to Berners, MR 78 cost $1,699; MR 75 $1,349 with production of 10,801 and 998 respectively.

Can only hypothesize sales were hampered by price not being significantly less than the much superior MR 78 and the then-popular and big seller MAC 4100 - which priced only at $1,500, had the same tuner circuitry as the MR 75!

Furthermore, MX117 tuner preamplifier also had the same tuner as MR75 and that was only $1,649.

I guess it boils down to $1,349 being too high for a standalone MR 75.

Supposedly the MR 79 combined the functions of the MR78 and MPI 4 but never went into production. I answered a Craigslist ad for one but never got a reply. If real it had to be a prototype.

The CL listing must have been an error.

I very much doubt the prototype MR 79 ever left factory possession.
