Transition from screw terminals to bananas?

Switching between pairs of the older speakers with screw terminations kind of a pain. Would like to make a transition pigtail with ring terminals on the speaker and female bananas on the other. Can't seem to find just female banana plugs. Anyone else do this and have a source?

You can scavenge a few double-sided banana jacks from a banana wall plate. Like this one:

Look on Ebay for female banana jack sockets. I buy them to make special test leads for test equipment.

There are pre-made adapters out there with a two-prong terminal and banana plug that you can just attach to the screw terminals.

I so-need to do this on my W90's AND my Fisher 800C. I hate those screw terminals. They're like an expressway to Shortsville.

Any idea what they call them? I tried to put something together before, but then the place ended up being out of stock on the parts I needed.

Get something like this: http://www.parts-express.com/dual-binding-post-1-red-1-black--090-475

Use some heatshrink after you solder the wires on to prevent shorts.

I made a set for the speakers having the crappy spring clip type terminals. They save me from swapping speaker wire, and they work well.

Those are too short for 3/4" stock so you'd have to plate mount them and cut out a hole for the plate.

These will do 3/4" stock

Or there's a bunch of cups and plates here too, including a pretty functional strip for under $3.00...

I bought a bunch of isolated banana sockets on ebay. nickel plated, 20 red insulators and 20 black insulators. Not expensive. The hardest part was filtering "binding posts" out of the search. I don't need 5-way binding, I need 1-way banana sockets will fit in the sockets and maybe it's as easy as drilling out the thumbscrew terminals and installing the banana sockets.

I want them mostly for the stupid/terrible thumbscrew terminals on my Hitachi HMA-6500, but I know I'll want them on other amps.

Just what you are asking for. I got some, I like em. Good solder well and nice covering. Available in 2 or more packages from the same vendor.

The rubbery plastic covers completely covers the metal female banana jack.

Yes, exactly! Thanks to all for the help. I didn't want to permanently alter the terminals on the speakers or amps/receivers for eventual resale.

While on a roll, anyone know if anyone sells just the replacement nuts/knobs for these? May be too 'proprietary' or non-universal. Even tried to find just a nut at Home Depot, but in this size all the thread pitches are too coarse. Hate to buy all new cup, but may have to - at least then I will have spares.

On ebay there are a number of sources for screw terminal to banana plug jacks described for use on amps such as EICO, McIntosh, Fisher, Scott, etc. They are usually good plated. You can just use them on the screw terminals of the speakers and then use the banana plug terminated speaker cable. They are inexpensive enough to just get a decent number of sets so you can have spares.
