I looked at his other sales, and they're all beautiful fully serviced overpriced TOTL reel decks.

Seems like at least three times the going rate for the RS1500/1700 series, which this seems to be based on.

It is based on the Technics RS- (series) reel to reels. The RS-777 entire head block is compatiable with the RS- (series) 10.5" reel to reels. It was designed that way to be interchangable, believe it or not. But unlike the RS-1500 and RS-1700 which can are common, the RS-777 is rare here in North America. One would have to look outside the states, such as in Europe or Japan but even then it still rarely comes up for sale overseas as well.

Technics did this, just like Pioneer did with the RT-909/-901 10.5" reel to reels and the it's smaller brother the RT-707/-701 7" reel to reels but Technics kicked it up a notch by designing the entire head block to be compatiable with one another, damn good design, and if the RS-777 is anthing like its bigger brothers (which IMHO I strongly believe that it is) then for sure it definitely rival's the RT-707/-701's in just about every aspect in that catagory.

This is mentioned here:

This is only my opinoin but as for directly competing in it's reel size catagory, yea there just might be some that could try but never beat, for me they are no where close to the RT-707/-701. Teac's A-4010 series are good but nowhere close to the RT- series.

The only one, again for me, would be the Technics RS-777, hands down and please don't even mentioned that POS Akai GX-77. About the only thing that it has going for it is it's cosmetic looks and that's all.

Having heard some 707s, I'm comfortable saying that my Tandberg 9200XD sounds better, and my Sansui SD-5050 is comparable. Nothing against the 707, it's an excellent machine, but it's not light-years ahead of the competition.
