Fisher RS-717 , Tuning radio

I recently picked up a RS-717 receiver, dual cassette, and 6 disc changer from a friend. When trying to get a station tuned in on the receiver it seems to only move from pre-set channel to channel. The remote didn't come with it so that way of tuning is out for now. I tried hitting the channel/freq button but it doesn't seem to do anything. I thought about picking up a remote but that would be $40 and I only paid $25 for the whole system. I'm not just being cheap but I hate to buy a remote when I don't even know if it will work with a remote. Any suggestions?

See if you can locate an owners manual. There may be a specific procedure to follow to get it to change stations from the tuner knob. Try a universal remote that works a Stereo or home theater type setup. It might work under SANYO if FISHER isn't listed.
