Has anyone listened to koss porta-pro or koss 4aa headphones may be buying these soon and would like to see if they are any good thanks in advance

There are probably 10+ threads here on AK with people praising the PortaPros. I just ordered a pair for myself last week based on reviews. Judging by the comments from others, they seem to be well worth the $40 they're going for right now. At that price, you might as well just try them out and if you don't like them, send them back! :)

I used to own a pair of the 4aa headphones.

They were very good. Switched to Sennheisers they were lighter.

Thanks for the help I will probably buy a pair of porta pro then see how I get on with them

Received my PortaPros today and so far I have to say, they're pretty impressive considering their size. I probably wouldn't pay more than $40 for them, though. I'm definitely more of a closed-back headphones type of person, and the PortaPros just don't produce the kind of fidelity that I'm used to. Bass is very good for headphones of this type, but the highs seemed a little...off. They sound a lot better with an EQ, IMO..

EDIT: After a few weeks of listening, I'm extremely satisfied with the PortaPros. I would gladly pay $40 for another pair!

A reto vote for the Pro 4AA's. Dang fine sound even if it is like hanging a pair of speakers on your head.

The Pro4AAs are the oldest option still (unbelievably) on the market. For closed back studio monitor headphones you can do much better.

And yes I own the Pro4AAs as well. That's my frame of reference.

They are easily the heaviest and least comfortable pair of headphones as well.

Yes I mainly wanted koss because I wanted vintage looking headphones that aren't second hand

Pro 4aa, a terrible headphone, like that scene in the movie "Casino" where they put a guy's head in a vice and tighten it until an eye pops out.

Possibly the most bought but least used product in the history of high fidelity. I'm getting a headache just sitting here thinking about the damned things.

the JVC HA-S160..or jvc 'flats' are a decent pair of closed back commuter phones for very little money.

Oh! There's also the AKG K240, Studio and mk II models. Updated drivers. Lots of mods for the avid tinkerer, original late 60s to early 70s aesthetic though.
