Phyllis, I wasn't trying to scare the OP, its just that old electronics can only sit for so long even the best environments before they need to be serviced. In the case of any old amp no limited to Fishers just about anyone will inform you not to try and power up an old piece of electronic gear. In the case of old tube amplifiers I am pretty sure based on most all I have read that 50 year of capacitors are going to be needing replacement. So even it the unit would work using it with old capacitors could and most likely would go bad, and the could damage other componets within the unit. So really rather than just trying to find why it is not currently working the only really safe thing to do is go in and change out all those caps, probably the rectifier, check the tubes, clean all the tupe pins, clean all the pots and switches, and that would apply to one even sitting in a persons home in a cabinet, yet alone sitting in a hot Florida attic.
If you where given a car that had been sitting in an old barn, would you expect to just jump the battery and expect it to start and then drive very far with it? Pretty much the same thing, when things get old they need to be gone thru, and somethings just need to be change out after a certian amount of time.
Really its not a big deal, and it would be well worth it to the OP. I would imagine any good tech he takes it to would advise the him the same thing.
Thats from what I have read in many post just about everywhere, I guess I was just the first to respond, if I am wrong and if a tech wants to give us better info fine by me.
