And now for something completely different. :thmbsp:

In the area of radio monitoring there are some very exotic areas that you can get into. One of them is listening to the RF forward scatter from the ion trails of incoming meteorites. In amateur radio there are some OP's that utilize meteor back-scatter for contacts. This is done with extreme high speed Morse code between computers with the signal being refracted off of the ion trails these meteors leave behind as they burn up in the atmosphere. You can setup your own system to monitor incoming meteorites the sound is unique. Below are resource links with information about setting up a system. Enjoy......:D

Space Weather Radio. Here you can listen to the sound of Meteorites entering the atmosphere.

Thanks transmaster. Unfortunately the audio links on that first page are dead.

I have a recording of a burst received on 105.0 MHz here in central southern England recorded on August 1st 2009, so an early Perseid:

The main station was identified as Frekvence 1, coming from Brno in the Czech Republic at a distance of 1365 km/848 miles. This is called meteor scatter, or MS for short.

I find this an interesting part of the DX hobby and will be leaving a tuner on 87.6 or 87.7 during the build-up to this current shower. The Perseids I find are often one of the more reliable showers for producing DX on the FM band.

Regards,
Nick
