Ok guys, Maybe I am a wierdo, but how many of you guys buy equipment by how it looks ??? I have to admit, I do it quite a lot. To tell you the truth, I really can't tell much of a difference between equipment... Speakers I can. ANYWAY, I have gotten obsessed with the European black faced versions of certain receivers -

SANSUI 890 AND 990 WOW - I went to AK member SUPERDOG's house and saw his 890DB and fell in love instantly.... European version of the 8080 and 9090...

PIONEER SX-7730,8830,9930 WOW AGAIN ! I am picking up a 7730 tomorrow - Its a keeper forever !! European version of the SX-737,838,939

PIONEER SX-5570,5580, 5590 HOLY SCHMOLY !!! Who would ever sell one of these beauties ?? Again, European version of the SX-950,1050,1250

I'm also getting a PROTON D-1200 power amp from a friend... LOVE THE COOL GREEN power meters !!!!!

I'm adding a pic of the 7730 I'm getting.... I'm gonna re-veneer the cheesy vinyl veneer cabinet with real walnut veneer.. A receiver as pretty as this deserves proper dress... hehe

Anyway, maybe the stuff I own isn't the highest fidelity equipment, but what the hell, it's fun to look at !!!!!

So what do you guys own solely based on looks ??? Dan :music:

The Threshold model SL10 looks great to me, I don't own it though.

Rotel RA-1320/1420. Mitsu DA-A10 or any variation with the DA-M10 attachment.

Had several Pioneer SX Black faced Euro versions, sold them all, including the SX-5590.

I'm one of those who like FORM over FUNCTION. Although it HAS to work.

PIONEER SX-790. I'm not a fan of "ALL SILVER FACE" units. I love the 790 over any of the x50 and x80 models. I need some contrast on the face. I DO however like the 5530, 7730, 9930 versions of the 535,737,939.

The correct list for the PIONEER Black Face (Euro.) is from Doc Stragelove's official list.

1975 SX-5530 SX-535
1975 SX-7730 SX-737
1975 SX-9930 SX-939
1976 SX-5560 SX-750
1976 SX-5570 SX-950
1976 SX-5580 SX-1050
1976 SX-5590 SX-1250

PIONEER SX x2x and x3x series
. Of the two I like the x3x better due to the knobs, and the bezel around the glass. And the lack of those gawd awful speaker connectors.

FISHER 550-T, 500-TX/800-T and any of the Two-Tone models like it. (700-T, 450-T, etc). ANY of the FISHER RECEIVERS from the 500-S to the 1800 both tubed and Solid State.

Early 70's (1970-1974) Black glass faced PIONEER Receivers. Any Version of Sx-1000, SX1500, SX6000, Sx9000.

SANSUI 2000, 2000A, 2000X or any of the others with the same design front.

McIntosh C26 was one of the prettiest pieces I have ever owned. Too bad it sounded terrible.

I found a Pioneer SX-690 at a thrift store once..... I too like the looks of that one over the all silver SX-680 Dan :music:

Onkyo Grand Integra 510 amplifier. 500 WPC into 4 ohms :)

Very nice piece. Might I suggest the Luxman M-05 as well? :)

Not as much power, but it's all class A!

As for my favourite piece aesthetically, well, right now I would have to say my Kef 107's:

My eyes work about as well as my ears so I have little trouble including visual aesthetics as a buying factor.

That said, my favorite piece visually is my Sony STR-6200F receiver, circa 1970.

I appreciate my Sony ST-S730ES tuner also, even if it is not the very best sounding tuner I own.

My signature pic is my choice.

Would you be willing to do a write up on your unit? Pictures, scans of documents, place of purchase, stories of historical importance heard on it?

I think the board would like that a lot.
