These are the models that were introduced during the Avery Fisher years: 1945-1969. 214 models to date - with probable duplications as a result of console chassis having separate model designations from their identical (?) separates, a common practice during the "transistorized" era. The year listed is the earliest reference to that model that I have come across.

I am sure there are plenty of models I have missed, especially among the the "transistorized" models for which I have limited reference material. There must also be more models from Fisher's early years yet to be discovered. Any and all additions and/or corrections are welcome. Can anyone provide a console/separates equivalency listing? Even a partial one would be helpful.

As for the Emerson/Sanyo "By Fisher" and "Studio Standard" models, I will leave that for somebody else. There are just too many for me. Also note that the use of 1969 as a cut-off date applies only to the model's introduction since many of the late 60s models continued in production into the early 70s.

Are those just the introduction dates? I know the R-20 was used in 1958. If the information is available, it might also be interesting to have the dates each one was dropped. I'm surprised to see that the mostly-tube FM-100-C was introduced as late as 1965.

Great list!

The dates are those of the earliest reference to that chassis I can find. Many could easily have been introduced earlier. I can't find the 1955 R-20 reference so that is probably a typo. The references I can find (catalog, schematic, prices lists, etc.) all agree with your 1958 dating so I will change that one unless I can figure out where I got the 1955 date from.

The FM-100-C is from at least as early as 1965 since it is listed in that year's components price list. It may be a 1964 introduction but I can't verify that date. The FM-100-B is listed in the 1963 component brochure (printed in the US) that the Commander picked up in Yokohama, Japan when he bought the 800-C that I now have. So it would most likely have been introduced subsequent to that model.

Determining the end of production for the vast majority of models would be a tall order, unless someone stumbles across the Fisher Radio Corp.'s archives . . . I believe they were lost some time after Fisher/Sanyo moved their headquarters to LA in 1977. Any LA dumpster-divers from the Disco Era here at AK with an attic full of Fisher history?

Keep the corrections coming - I know some of you guys must have bigger piles of Fisher junk than I do. I've only been collecting for a little over 3 years.

In addition to the 500TX (Model# according to my Service Manual (Single Voltage Receiver not an amp)) Fisher had the 800T which was the Overseas version (Multiple Voltage). They both had AUTO SCAN, Tune-o-matic, and a DIN Plug on the back for a Wired Remote for the Auto Scan. The 800T had the Remote as Standard equipment. The 500TX it was an option. Basically a center off spring loaded SPDT in a box with a 25ft cord and a DIN Jack.

Larry:

EDIT: Also noticed the 49T vs. 49-IPA? the 49T is the Tuner Preamp used in the Custom Electra VIII and the Diplomat for '65. Just checked the Nomenclature on the Tuner itself. Definately 49-T.

Thanks, Larry. Is the service manual for the 500-TX dated? Does 1969 sound about right? I got that information from radiomuseum.org but I don't have much confidence in their dates. The material I have collected doesn't agree with some of their findings. I will add the 800-TX to the database and correct the description, using the 1969 date unless you know otherwise.

As for the 49-T/49-A combo vs 49-IPA/48-WA combo, they are both listed as alternate chassis combos found in 1965 CE VIII's. I can't give you any particulars as to possible differences between the two combos but the information in the console chassis database I obtained from "The Fisher Professor" has proven to be very reliable.

Actually 1968 for the 69 model year for the 500T(The Front of the unit says 500T but the model sticker on back says 500TX) is correct. The 800T came out in mid 1969 and both were made from 69 to 71. I got the manual from Rick Stout (repro'ed from his personal Collection). He bought his 500TX new in 69 when they first came out.

I think Pacific Stereo has an 800-T. As does Miniman82. The 800T has a Black and Chrome Face Plate where the 500TX is Chrome and Champagne colored. Other than the Voltage selector and the faceplate, they are identical.

Wonder what the differences are in the 49 combo's. Now you got me interested. Would be nice to find out.

TX-2000? Fisherdude, are you holding out on me? I've never run across that one. What year did that model debut? And 260 watts?!?! That's Fisher hyperbole, right?

Great start on a data base- but there are a few omissions. Here are some that you missed.

X-44- factory wired KX-90 (ultra rare- it is even unknown if any left the factory- but a service manual does exist)
X-200- factory wired KX-200
FMR-2- the broadcast version of the TFM-1000 (ultra rare as well- but several are known to exist)
X-100-2
X-100-3
TX-2000
PR-4

Also-

There is no X-100-D.

The KM-61 is the factory wired KM-60- so it is technically not a "Stratakit", even though it does use the same chassis as a KM-60- complete with "Stratakit" silk screening.

There is no X-101-A- it is the X-101-ST- which also exists as the X-1000 console amp.

The 70-RT, 80-T, 90-T, 100-T, and 202-T are "Tuner Preamps".

Nice start. I noticed that the 800TA from around 1960 is missing from the list. Always enjoy your posts.

Thanks

EL-37, Thank you for the additions and corrections. I had been hoping some of the real Fisher experts would weigh in. Do you happen to know the year of introduction for any of the chassis you mentioned? Would the X-44 and X-200 have debuted concurrently with their Stratokit versions? And was the FMR-2 available to broadcasters at the same time as the TFM-1000?

I was dubious of the X-101-A - thinking, as you stated, that it was one and the same with the X-101-ST. But there were a lot of references to it so I put it on the list. I'll remove it, along with the X-100-D which I think was supposed to be the X-101-D. So, with those two deletions, that's a net gain of 5 chassis for a new total of 214.

Fisher Model 50A Tuner

Hello all,

Just noticed this list doesn't include the Model 50A Tuner.

I've believe this might have been the console version of the 70 RT since they look identical from pictures.

DSC02533.jpg

The back is clearly stamped as a 50A and I have yet to find any information on this chassis. When you google Fisher 50A the results are always for the mono block amps.

Any one know anything about this one and might point me to more info or a schematic?

Anyway another one for the list.

Could you post some pictures of the back of the unit, including the identifying markings?

Here you go.

My Camera wasn't good enough to do a close up of the label so I unscrewed it and made a scan.

I find it difficult to believe that Fisher would have used the same chassis number on two different chassis from roughly the same time. But I have learned to never say never where Fisher nomenclature is concerned. All the other Fisher chassis that are ##-A are, as you've found in your internet searches; power amps.

To me it looks like a 70-RT but it is clearly labeled 50A. One option would be that it is incorrectly labeled. Another would be the remote possibility that it was a chassis used in the Series 50 consolette. However, all the consolette chassis (101/202, 50/60, 51/61, and 510/610), to my knowledge, are all-in-one chassis whereas your "50A" appears to be one of Fisher's "RT" (tuner/control amp) chassis. I will check to see if I have any images of the Series 50 consolette controls.

Unfortunately, I don't have a schematic for the 70-RT but someone here at AK probably does. If you would list your tube compliment we could compare it to the 70-RT to see how close it is. I did just find an old Fisher ad for the 70-RT which has an image of the back of the chassis. It is identical, tube for tube, coil for coil and jack for jack with your "50A". I really think it's a 70-RT.

EDIT: I can rule out the consolette theory since the Series 50 chassis would have been phono-only. The Series 60 was the one with AM-FM radio.

Once I locate a schematic even for a 70-RT I'll check it out and list the tubes it's supporting.

I purchased this and several other items from a guy whom stated that all came from Avery Fisher's summer home. This was back around 2006. The paper work I received was supposedly signed by Chip FIsher so since then I've just always assumed that maybe it was a proto type for the 70-RT and when it went into production they changed the model from 50A to 70-RT because the model number had already been used for the amps.

It's been sitting on a shelf the last few years and after dusting things off I decided to check out the turning eye to see it worked and started searching to see if I had any information on it.
