Mc240 tube cage

I guess this is a question for Terry although anyone with knowledge can help.
I am looking for a tube cage for my MC240. I know there are at least two different versions. I have a friend with the older type of 240. The tube cage has square holes as well as, I believe 4 locking lugs on the chassis. Mine has 2 lugs on the chassis. I have seen most of the cages with round holes. My questions are,
1, Which is correct for my 240.
2, Are there any other versions that will fit my 240.
Thanks...

Either version will fit, rule of thumb: if MC240 is early version with 2 octal connectors on the front the cage 'may' have square holes, if it has only 1 octal connector it it 'will' have small round holes. Many of the cages have the mounts for 4 of the chassis mounted posts, but I have never seen a chassis 4 posts, only 2.

Back in 1978 our Mac rep told us that many of the amps were sold without tube cages.......to incentivize customers to mail in their service contract registration, once sent in Mac would ship the new owner a cage at N/C.

I had heard they were possibly an option, but would like to have one.

According to Oscar it was a dismall failure, it did not appreciably increase the the service contract applications. Did not increase until they started pressing the dealer to step in and have the customer fill it out.

I do not know when they started to delete or add the cages back to the original packaging.

Oscar was our reigonal McIntosh rep. DOB had to back out of a scheduled clinic one time at the last minute, so Oscar did the clinic.

Thanks Terry,
Now all I have to do is find one at a reasonable price. It's amazing what tube cages sell for...

As with vintage cars, parts prices are usually a reflection of the value of the item the part is used on.

There were three versions of MC 240. "Heavier" style "McIntosh 240" plate lettering is on the early version only.

I have an early, early unit with 4 posts and an early unit with 2 posts. No difference in the square hole cages.

Cages come up on the bay every now and then at a decent price.
