Well unfortunately the MX-10000 suffered some damage in transit. This illustrates why solid foam sheets rather than foam peanuts should be used for packing:

Humm, can't bend aluminum that thick.

I am sorry to see that mark, made me cringe a bit.

I'd ask for a bit of money back.

Perhaps a grey colored sharpie can make it look presentable?

No, aluminum that thick doesn't bend. It looks like it absorbed all the damage since it's bolted to a chassis as strong as the MX-10000 has. I'll check with Yamaha to see if they're got a spare faceplate, which is very unlikely. I'll probably end up touching it up as best I can.

That little bit of damage doesn't spoil the thrill of getting these incredible componants. I never thought these would ever be available, much less priced within my reach.

Banana dance!

Great. Another beautiful couple of pieces to look for.

Very nice equipment, have never seen pics before, thanks!

Lucky Man!!

I watched that auction on the 'bay from minute one. I even told a friend about it who has fairly deep pockets to grab those pieces. He said he doubted that they would fetch the opening bid! As the owner of an almost exclusively vintage Yamaha system, I was fully aware of these landmark components. I would stack that amp up against anything on the market today, even the best of the best. Yamaha made a statement with those pieces and (as I'm sure you know) you are a very lucky man!! For a person that knows the quality of Yamaha, and has lusted about those models, I would feel fortunate just to hear them. It is a shame about the amp's faceplate damage, I would definately ask for a considerable amount of money to partially compensate you  . Never-ever even seen any of those for sale before. Thank you so much for sharing the pic's, what a cool thing to see!! As a footnote, my brother had the CD-1 dual drawer CD player. It was Yamaha's first CD player. It is such a smooth sounding, high quality unit that it still holds it's own amongst high end CD's of today. Congratulations on acquiring those dream components :thmbsp:

Yes, I'm very fortunate to have these incredible pieces. I'll be posting nudies and commentary in the coming days. That's cool that your brother has the CD-1 -it's nice to have some first hand commentary on the sound quality. I'd read about it on The Vintage Knob, and just get one on eBay (it's still in transit).

Did I miss it somewhere...do they function? Very, VERY nice!

Indeed, I just don't understand why folks STILL use loose peanuts, especially with components like those. It takes such little extra effort and materials to do the job properly.

Keep those photos and reports coming!

You have the best of the best, don't let that slight cosmetic damage ruin all the future pleasure that awaits you, my heartiest congratulations, you are truly now in rarefied Yamaha territory. Waiting for your review.

Mark B,

Damn shame about that minor crunch, which, as stated, could have been so easily avoided. Nonetheless, beautiful pieces of equipment!
