Hi Kenwood appreciators, I'm new here and trying to get some feedback on just what I should do with my reacquired Kenwood 700 series amp/preamp that I bought new in 75 but then gave them to my brother keep them about 10 years after. Now I have them back in my possession but according to him several years ago one channel started to fade and eventually stopped working. He has never opened them up but just unplugged them and left them sitting on the shelf. I was wondering how to proceed with these rather valuable pieces of vintage audio gear. I was thinking I could pull the covers and give all the contact points a good cleaning with Deoxit, then power it up and see if that did any good. What are the dangers with doing that? Is there a fair possibility that I could damage this thing more by energizing it? Just seeking advice and as always it will be solely me who takes responsibility for my actions here if anything does go wrong. Thanks for any feedback!
Here is a picture of them, fairly dirty but in pretty good physical shape on the exterior.
