that one "gotta have" LP for the classic rock fan

Guys (and gals)

I recently purchased locally a Technics SL-D2 turn table that was in good shape but was missing the cartridge and head shell. I paid $30 for it, and with the help of this forum (via Google) I purchased an Audio Technica AT95e cartridge and a headshell for it, found the service and owners manuals online, and got everything installed and setup without too much trouble.

The reason I decided to get a turn table is my grandmother passed away last summer, and one of the things given to me from her house was an Orson Wells War of the Worlds LP which seems like it was released in 1968. I really wanted to listen to it, hence the investment. This is the LP http://www.discogs.com/Orson-Welles-War-Of-The-Worlds/release/857557

anyways, now that I've listened to The War of the Worlds, why not listen to music on it???

I'm a big fan of classic and 80's rock, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Boston, Led Zepplin, AC/DC, SRV etc. Really, I love guitar driven music. What's that ONE gotta have LP you'd recommend to get me started?

The rest of my main room system is a Fisher RS-2007 with some so-so modern JBL Stage tower speakers, along with a 6 disc Sony changer and a home brew home theater PC. In my office I have a Fisher RS-1030 and a pair of Realistic Minimus 7w's. I'm also finishing up an LM3886 amplifier build.

Thanks for any suggestions!

That "one" gotta have LP could be any of many!
Each and everyone of us have our own opinion but that being said you,ve got me stumped at the moment as I have so many and not just a single one. I'm sure someone will come along shortly with theirs so I/We can't wait and by the way, welcome to AK:)

Agreed, maybe 100 gotta haves, but no way I could boil it down to just one. I guess that's the best part of TT ownership. Check out your local thrift stores and garage sales to pick up examples for cheap and let em spin!

Ps, I'm listening to a 180 gm pressing of Dire Straits debut album as I type this and highly recommend it!

I'll throw in The Allman Brothers "Live at the Fillmore," as "Eat A Peach" has already been recommended. Many good memories from that album.

The first one you can get your hands on as reasonably priced and conditioned as possible that you will listen to.

I could tell you to go drop cash for DSOTM, or Bob Sieger, but in my opinion, the most fun of all of it is the hunt. Let it come to you, don't go straight for it.

I have Genesis Three Sides live turning right now myself.

Wishbone Ash-Argus

Try to find a clean copy!! I ended up buying the remastered version on CD and it sounds pretty awesome. The only used vinyl copy I found looked and sounded like someone rolled joints and chopped coke on it..

point well taken, I have looked at a few different thrift shops and have found nothing but lots of polka and some new looking reprints of Beethoven etc (not that I don't like Beethoven)

Sounds picked through as many are becoming. There are many vinyl shops resurfacing in various areas I have found. Depends on where u live. I drive 2hrs to the nearest city and always return with many treasures. Ebay works too, but generally overpriced. CL is good for finding collections. My favorite shop is $3 max and have everything in great condition.
