Identifying unknown Pioneer speakers

Froese

New Member
Hey guys...
I bought this pair of speakers today. I think I may have discerned that they are 8 ohms. I have no idea what the wattage is, is there any way to find that out?
I'd be really glad if you could help me identify them, so I can find the appropriate wattage. :music: I included photos of everything that's important. There is no sticker anywhere, no serial (that I could find, maybe I'm not looking in the right place and/or I may have to disassemble it) and basically nothing but the Pioneer logo.

A nickel bet that they're rated at 50 watts, but who cares as long as you have a good amplifier?
(in other words, power ratings really don't mean much)

They resemble the Promusica 120, maybe a later version ?

Interesting suggestion...I think they weigh 20 lbs tops (the pair that is). I guess I'll have to weigh them. Thanks!

I'm already using HPM-50s with that amplifier and I'm not risking connecting the two systems. I have a daily setup of two systems (the HPMs and a pair of small Marantzs). I think your guess could be pretty accurate.

That should be 26 lbs each on the Pro Musica. I had the Project 120 which looked exactly like those Pro Musica 120 but were much heavier. Maybe Pioneer skimped a bit each change and changed the name. Yours might be the next line after those Musicas ?

The Project 120 was set up just like the Pro Musica 120 but heavier. All cone and ported, which I just noticed Froeses are not ported.

The Project 120 seems to be rare, can't find anything at all on them ?

For years, Pioneer was a major speaker manufacturer (OEM) - they may still be, not sure. Those look to be typical lower-end Pioneer cone drivers, no more, no less.

I saw a pair of 120's at a thrift yesterday, real hard not to bring them home. I don't need any more speakers.

Here are my 100A's for a restoration project one day sitting on shelves in the basement. My sister gave these to me back in 80's and I remember when she had them in the 70's. The surrounds had rotted so replaced with Radio shack woofers in early 90's and they sounded decent. And the surround on the one was eaten by our dog! I do recall the one tweeter is bad. and the paper info sheets are intact on both.
